Engine & transmission fluids

Alright, rebuilding my engine(spun a bearing at 170K) and final assembly should take place this weekend. Anyways, just wondering what oil I should start out with and then move up too. I know I need to change it several times every 700-1,000 miles. Also what kind of fluid should I run in the tranny(it has as far as I know 170k, should be the original). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any other information about a rebuilt engine would be great(just want to get the max life out of it this time around).

Thanks

Well, for one thing, with a new engine, never use synthetic motor oils. NEVER. The synthetics are too slippery and won't let the engine get broken in. Use conventional oil like Mobil 1 or Pennzoil, whatever you see that works. Just make sure not to use synthetic.

For trans fluid, if you have an automatic, use some B&M Trick Shift. Don't use the synthetic stuff either. If it's a manual trans, just use any regular gear oil.

Don't forget the differential. Use a high quality CLIMBING gear oil back there and it'll last you the life of your car.

Sorry about that, I have a 5 speed manual. Should I change the diffy fluid, cause I haven't even touched that. Also what weight should I use? Something thin or thick?

Thanks

Check the haynes book or your manual. I think it may be like 20W-50 geear oil, but I may be wrong. Maybe they even want you to run straight 30weight gear oil. CHeck the book for your year.
