I would like to know what is the temperature at the middle of the gauge for these 79 to 83 280zx's. At the middle there is a thermometer logo (WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE AT THIS SPOT?).

2. What is the normal running temperature of these inline six engines. Mine runs right at the termperature logo and in the summer is runs past it with the AC on but it has not reached maximum range yet. I did put a new radaitor.

Should I maybe change my thermsatic with a lower range on it? what range should it be?

When you buy a thermostat for your car, it has its own rated temperature that it opens up and lets the coolant circulate. When I put in a 180 deg thermostat the needle reads just on the left side of the temp logo. When I put in a 195 deg thermostat the needle reads just to the right of the logo. Both times the need is still touching part of the logo or very close to it. If its 2/3 of the way up the gauge or higher then you are overheating. These cars run great at 195 deg. A 180 deg is really only nessisary if you live in a very hot climate and use A/C all the time. 160 deg thermostats can be purchased but its not good for the engine to run that cool all the time.

 

Thanks for the advise, I'll check the thermostate if it runs past 2/3's, if it does I'll check the thermostat.

Well...in case you have a freind that has a digital thermometer (like me) It shouldn't hardly ever read past the middle. Sometimes it'll go past in heavy traffic or at a stop light, but when you get moving again, it goes back to normal.
