Suspension Questions
Suspension Questions
My Z is way too low. I scrape everything. I can't go anywhere but completely flat road with it. If theres a slight bump, forget it. What sort of suspension setups do you guys all have, and what should i do about this. The springs are stock I'm told, but the shocks are Tokico Iluminas. This is what my mechanic told me. What are my options....? Thanks.

Your springs must really be sagging to have that much trouble driving around. Replacing with oem springs will be relatively inexpensive. You will notice the difference in the height of the car afterwards. There are alot of people that run Eibach springs that lower the car .8 of an inch, with no problems. I to run the Eibachs with slight tire rubbing in the rear wheel wells, but I am running 18's w/285's. I can remedy that by rolling the fenders, just haven't gotten to it yet. Hope this helps some.

I have those same shocks and intrax springs which lower the car more than the eibachs. My car is low but i don't seem to have too many problems except coming out of driveways and such. I don't even have any rubbing and I'm running 18''s in the back as well. have u tried adjusting the springs? you do know that they are 5 way adjustable, rihgt? try setting them to 5....that'll give u ultimate stiffness and it will keep your car from sagging a lot more than it would, but get some new springs. I've heard of people getting performance springs and their car actually being raised because the stock springs were sagging so much.
Double check to make sure that the Tokico's you have are actually the Illuminas. The Illuminas line from Tokico are externally adjustable. You should also check to make sure that they're not set all the way on firm as well. Seems to me that you'd like a softer feel. The stock shocks are also provided by Tokico, so look for the difference.
I have a feeling that you're still running the stock suspension. New springs and shocks will remedy your situation. Check out www.tirerack.com or www.nopionline.com or if your pockets are deep try www.splparts.com www.sgpracing.com www.boost-solutions.com

tocikos come stock on the 300? that must have slipped past me. i didnt know. thanks rizz. i'll bring that up to my mechanic. how are konis on a z? thats what im thinkin right now. koni yellows and eibach springs.... but no, my pockets are not deep. thanks to everybodyu for your replys thus far.
One way to make sure you have the illuminas os to check on the top of the strut inside the engine bay. You will see a little red **** that has 1-5 labeled around it and a small flathead screw in the middle...I have Illuminas--if you don't have them, may I suggest them?
how do konis sound?
Expensive! You can get KYB AGX adjustables for under 100 each if you shop around. The Illuminas are a popular choice and still less expensive than the konis.
Why does everyone go with the Eibachs? They're expensive too. Especially for only a .8 of an inch drop. Go to jcwhitney.com or nopionline.com to find less expensive springs that do the same thing. Don't forget the shock mounts and to get a realignment and/or a camber kit. After replacing worn suspension components, you'll probably should have your alignment checked.
