Im having a hard time finding a replacement Torque Converter for my z. Cars an 88T. Oreilly lists one for the 84 turbo only as a DA8. Anyone know what the part number for a Torque Converter is for 85-89 cars? DA8?, DA14? I cant find the info anywhere. The DA8 is a 18 spline and DA14 is a 20 spline from what i understand. I havnt pulled the trans out of the car to look at the splines.

 

Should be able to cross reference to the original Nissan part #31100-X8181, yes/no?

 

I called Oreilly and napa with that part number.... thumbs up there a$$es.

 

I googled the part number. Looks like Courtesy Nissan in Dallas may have one in stock. What caught my eye was an outfit called "OEM-Surplus". They list the converter for an unbelievable price. May be a sketchy outfit, but there is a phone number listed. Might be worth a shot.

Forget Courtesy, and that oem surplus looks like a scam for sure. My local tranny shop is going to get the converter from DACCO. I just don't know the spline count to tell him which one to order the DA8 or DA14. He said he hasn't rebuilt a e4n71b in 5 years so he wasn't sure which one to order either. I'm just going to have to pull the tranny this weekend, order the converter and wait a week to put back together. What I tryed to not do but hey.... That's the way it goes sometimes when your working on a 27 year old car.

I have mine laying out with my auto trans back home.. I'll get ahold of my cousin tomorrow and see if he can identify it and I'll get back to you with the results (if you haven't already pulled the trans or figured it out by then).

Forgot to mention that mine is an NA and the code stamped on the converter was GXA (which directed me to a DA8 on O'Reilly's). And according to xenonzcar's page on the auto to manual swap, the turbo torque converter would have the code 'G'... so DX14?

 

Wolf, thanks for the info. Is your car an 84? I could only find info that suggested that the 84 n/a was the only z31 that took the DA8.

 

No problem. Sorry for being vague - yeah, it's an 84 with the gxa/DA8.
According to the Autozone webpage, it looks like the DA14 fits the 88T.. I'd head over there and check it out. The DA8 fits n/a and turbo up until 87 where they started using the DA14 for turbo models.

Alright, Tranny out. The Converter is a DA14 with a L stamp mark on the back. The input shaft is a 20 spline. From all the info i gathered... im thinking the Turbo cars had a 20 spline and the N/As had the 18 spline starting in 87.

 

OEM surplus is not a scam site. Z31 owners have been buying parts there for years with excellent results.
