I have a 280zx N/A. Having trouble with my emergency brake. No matter how hard i pull, the lever wont come up. Please help and, as always, thanks a lot in advance.

You can download a free copy of the fsm, your E-brake works on a set of cables with a pivot point where they join(that needs lubed), so rust and many other things can effect its operation. You will need to get access under the car, put it on jack stands or take to a local garage. It may just need to be oiled/greased, but you might need to replace it. In the Brake section of the FSM(15 of 20 in the pdf) is a diagram of the brake cable setup, parts are scarce, so you might have to take it apart, repair what you can and reassemble.

Definitely a good time to go recycler for a 'new used' cable. Nissan had my '86 OEM cable available. Paid almost $200 for it. Kicked myself afterwards. But it was a 10-minute installation.

I would look for a recycler in some part of the country that doesn't salt their roads in winter. There's your rust. We tried injecting oil/grease into the old cable but nothing worked. Maybe the 280's cable design is friendlier. We also thought of fabricating a new cable - so long as the lengths were exact and the pivot/spread point was exact... but didn't work. Give it a shot anyway. And let us know what you came up with - when you get a chance.

Mine were seized and I tried to be cheap and get them to move freely again. Spent a lot of time and did get the cable to free up...some...should have just bought a replacement cable.

Try Black Diamond. They only have the front cable for a 2+2 but they have the rear for all 82-83 models for 49.95
