I just bought two 300ZX's for $250. One is a 84 and one is a 85, they don't engines but one has a tranny. What would be my best bet for engines? and the cheapest at that. Both cars are in good condition, just lacking the motorvation to move :P
What should I do? all of my other friends are mad at me because i got a good deal like that, and they have Z's also, but older ones.

well in budget wise...i'm going to be broke for a bit unless i can sell my other car for a least 25,000. Its a 1972 Plymouth Satellite running a 400 engine (Preformance) and i have a somewhat desent paint job now...it was new, but it just sucked. brand new interior...just needs alittle front suspension work and tires...but if i have to really give it a budget i would have to say around 700 dollars...also what kind of engine can fit in a 300zx? I know a v-8 won't fit unless I wanted to pay alot of money for a custom mount kit

 

You can put a small block in there. And I remember there being a couple of mount kits. And not too expencive.

 

someone told me a chevy v-6 small block would probably fit and there are alot of them in junk yards here where i live... would those work and also if i did get those what kind of tranny fit with it? like i said one car has a automatic transmission...and also i found out my 84 had a turbo into, but i am trying to find the person who has it. I want something with speed and doesn't use alot of gas.

the easiest is going to be to find another Z31 engine. You didn't say if the ECU or wiring harnesses were there. If they are, you'll want to find the appropriate engine to go with that harness. If not, you'll be spending lots of time troubleshooting. If no ECu or harness, you'll need those as well.

Expect a V8 swap to run in the $3000+ range.
