New to 300zx, Just bought my 2nd Zed
Hi guys Im from Queensland Australia, i recently purchased my 2nd 300ZX. My first (the white one) was an 89 Import 2+2 Targa in pearl white originally with an auto trans. I bought it in a very rough condition and rebuilt it.
This is what it looked like after the build....

And these are the various pictures from during the build.

Anyways, stupidly i sold it and bought a supra which i then missed it so i found and bought this...

It's a 1989 2+0 Targa Twin turbo. It may not look like its all that great but underneath it all is a dead straight body, rebuilt engine, garret 2870r's, a full aftermarket fuel system, nismo ECU and cluster, electronic boost controller, 3in stainless twin split exhaust, nismo short shift kit, fully adjustable coilovers, momo padded steering wheel and a bunch of other really small stuff. It needs some love but i feel like its worth saving, I already am having it painted (either midnight purple or midnight blue).
I guess im posting to figure out some issues ive been having. I'm going to start by posting a copy paste from my facebook page:
"Righto. Update on the Z for those who haven't been around to be involved with it.
Left bank is yet to be troubleshooted but if i were to guess based on my past experience with Z's, this one being 1989 and having sat for a little while will have a dead injector and thats causing havoc in the left bank, likely also a dying/dead coilpack and old spark plugs(which repco want $400 EACH for... will see what i can do about getting a set of splitfire packs). We're chasing a little miss below 2k, hopefully we'll be able to find it.
Yet to inspect turbo on the passenger side but it may or may not be dead. That's a tomorrow job.... Greeeeeaaaaaaat...
Short shifter was adjusted and first/reverse are now easier to engage, but when the car gets warm i seem to be losing hydraulic pressure in the clutch... So we're putting some fresh high performance high temp fluids in to see if that helps before looking at replacing master/slave cylinders as the Z's (especially the twin turbos) keep ALOT of heat in.
There are 3 connectors that seem to be missing something to join onto (check photos) So we have to figure out where they go *gulp* and assess if the O2 sensors are good or duds.

The slight clunking in the back is the two piece tailshaft that needs a new centre bearing but i may be buying 2 more Zeds very soon for a steal and snaking the one piece tailshaft and fresh turbos from one.
The turbo timer that was mounted and installed by a 2 year old has been wired up properly and moved to a more suitable location and the wiring in the centre of the dash for the stereo has been cut and rewired from scratch and the head unit replaced.
The drivers door card needs replacing and they both require new clips. The power locks have been rewired but i need to find where the plug for them goes to.

I'm going to be making a trip to spotlight next pay and pick up a bunch of black suede to replace ALL of the tweed parts around the dash and on the door cards etc. And some new speakers for the front doors.
Reverse light/switch needs to be looked at as it does not work and the speedo occasionally stops working for up to 3 minutes at a time. Drivers mirror needs to be replaced asap as its hanging by a thread.
And finally it requires paint. I'm undecided on what colour i should make it. Midnight Purple or Midnight Blue (like the devil Z) - Opinions are appreciated.
It all sounds like a bigger job than it really is, there are alot of small jobs but i feel this car is definitely worth saving.
Big thanks to my mates who have helped out in the last few days Corey Snow Nash Will Andrew."
Now onto the questions i have.
This particular Z shoots blue flame out the drivers side only (passenger side for you yankies... but here in aus its rhd), the passenger side turbo may or may not be on its way out and the passenger side bank runs a little rough below 2k rpm, definitely misses. What would cause a foot long blue flame to shoot out the exhaust like that on 98 octane pump fuel?
second the plugs i talked about in my post... can anyone tell me where they go?
Can anyone tell me why my front bar does not match up to the reo for the car?

What are the common faults for an 89 Twin turbo?
This model has hicas, what would be the best lockout kit available for it?
If anyone could shed some light on any of this that would be great!
Cheers,
Storm
