Somewhat seriously considering. 2k mile trip...

I'm seriously considering making a 2k mile trip, in my old unrestored 123k mile 79 280zx. I think this pretty well qualifies me as loony, and what seems to worry me the most is MY rear end, as the seat either never had much padding(neither did I) or doesn't anymore.
Anybody else loony enough to do such a thing with a 30 yr old, 205$ ebay car???

Go to your local fabric store and buy some foam padding for the seat if that's all your worried about. It'll make you sit higher, might even make your head bounce off the roof on a good bump in the road, but your rear won't be hurting...

I did that on my trip to SoCal and it was pretty comfortable.

did a 600 mile round trip through the arizona desert in the middle of summer with a 300zx that would like to overheat, had a rod knock, failing oil pump and stretched timing belt, that i got for $50 at the junkyard! your s130 should make it no problem......

I drove my ZX from AZ to NY and back again. The only bad part was no A/C in the south...

Just keep extra fluids and a set of wrenches on hand

I say go ahead and do it. The ZX is more of a luxury oriented car....I think it would be tougher in an S30.

Hehe, yeah, probably. Years ago, I drove a pl521 ~8000 miles on a trip, that included the Alcan hwy twice. I've always said ANYTHING mounted on rubber rode smoother than those. To old for that stuff anymore.

back in the days of real *****, before the days of abject chickenry, i drove a vw bus that was old by those standards, with a cracked frame--cracked in all 4 corners--across country twice---started out with 300,000 mi on the used engine------you should be fine--just take fluids and tools and , if you have a woossy butt, a gel pad for the seat..lol......have fun,,,,goooo dluck---the car may make it---i got my bus for free before the trip and drove it with no tools and only fluids ...lol..oh yes, and a timing belt, if those use them..might need it if the one in it hasnt been changed--might be a good idea to hedge yer bets,,lol.~~~~~~_/)~~~~~~~~~

Oh man, sorry to hear it.

I'd love to make a cross-country trip in an old sports car sometime.....or better yet, my bike, even though I don't know if my back would ever recover...

Hehe, I used to feel that way about my bike too. Took a trip to Reno on it(1200 rt) Got disabused of that notion in a hurry... Damn near got in contest with a bunch of Harley guys, seems they didn't like me cutting through their pack and leaving them behind. This was obviously before half the jap bikes out there could beat a Harley, and they weren't mentally ready to concede at that point just yet... Came close to broadsiding a deer at 90 to, nope, I'll pass...
