a question to pose
I realize the popularity of the 84-89 300zx but should there be a seperate class for the 84 anniversary? I don't mean to raise a brow but the question is this.Every class is the same Including the 88 ss. The 84 ae is the pre-thought to the 86 as far as body lines and is the first car sold with more options then any car in history.Every show, however still classifies them as all the same and as such I have have wondered should I sway from orinal (stock) to lightly modified K&N cone and such, maybe a cd lol....240 throttle 3" exaust? Whats up?
Ive seen judges that have no appreciation or lack of knowledge and I'm sorry if it seems like I'm blowin my horn but really. My car has the original NO.# 51 labeled on the console .Haven't seen that on any anny. ive seen and do the judges have the qualifications to know that? I almost bought a 50th anny in 1990 with the #50 label on the console but it was missing the exterior badges. Nice eh? 50th 0f the 50th lol
So should I go stock If most judges rarily see the cars and don't know what their looking for, whats the difference? Thinkin of almost all original but lightely modified and gorgeous original pewter with gold airbrush and stripes...., but then again who would really know..?

Re: a question to pose
if this is a show car only, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEEP EVERYTHING ORIGINAL. the judges know more than you think. on the other hand, if its a weekend driver, a few mods wont hurt. just be sure not to do anything irreversable and keep all the original parts handy.(i.e. if you put a new stereo in it, use a kit and keep the original. dont cut anything) someday i will have an AE even if i buy it as a piece of junk. happy z-ing.

Amen to what Zcarninja says...
If you want a modified one, get another to "play with". They can be found pretty cheap these days.
I have my '86T which i show as a 100% stock car and others that I will modify. From what I've seen, judges lean a bit more toward the collectible status of the AE rather than other years. This is only my guess since 2 of the shows in which there was an AE, the AE took 1st and I took 2nd. The other show I was in, I was classed with Z32's and got 2nd to a 1995 TT. Very disappointing as parts for Z32's are still pretty readily accessible thru the dealer. I can't even buy a new set of the original model tires that came on mine, or a new coolant reservoir bottle like came in '86's. They have been replaced by the similar ones used in '87 and newer. Oh well....
Maybe I'll have a slim chance at the convention Wednesday since Z31's and Z32's will have their own classes. I will have that same AE to beat though.....
I still plan to keep mine as close to original as possible. I will modify the heck out of my other 2 "keepers" if I want.
