TBs, Final word
TBs, Final word
I have seen conflicting comments on 240 TB swaps. some say you need to swap the tps from the 280, some use the 240 tps. Some say use only the early 240 TB some say use any. So what is the final word on this topic before I do the swap?
I just did the swap over the weekend, but on a side note, my car hasn't been run on the street just yet since I'm waiting for my thermostat housing gasket to arrive. I've only idled the car and revved it up a few times. Now to answer your questions/concerns. Use any throttle body that does NOT have cruise control. If you get a throttle body with cruise control, you're going to have to cut the shaft for the linkage on the throttle body to shorten it up, a major pain in my opinion.
Use a 240sx tps, the 280zxt tps can be used, but you will have to drill new holes in the bracket to make it fit on the 240sx TB since the 240sx tps mounting points are closer together. You can still use the same plug from the 280 so don't worry about that if you don't have it, but you might need to lengthen the wires for the tps since the 240sx tps faces towards the radiator instead of up towards the hood like the stock tps did. Adjust for the tps is the same as the stock tps. Other than that, I can't think of anything else to add. Good luck with the swap, the increase in throttle response is very noticeable.

It seems like we talk about the same things over & over in the technical forum...
"How can I mod my engine?" "Why won't my car start?" and... "Has anyone done this before?"
It is a good idea to catigorize the tech questions tho.
The problem is that not all the 240ZX throttle bodys are the same. That's why so many conflicting comments on their install methods. If you take a look at the pics in efrains post then you'll see that his 240TB is clearly unable to be used as is on a 28ZX. Not only could you not just swap on the 280 TPS, but you couldn't use the 240's TPS either. He'd have to change out the whole shaft. On the 240TB that I had I I could use either TPS (though the 280's TPS had to be redrilled). It's all in which TB you get. Not even all 280TB are directly interchangeable without mods. So a end all of writeup on this swap would have to entail every possible scenario and that's not likely to happen unless everyone who's done this swap gets together and dicusses their different situations and then make one big writeup on it.
A more logical writeup at this point would be to start a thread and post what problem you ran into and dealt with while installing your 240SX TB. That would be mucho helpful.

Here's a link that explains in a lil detail the 60mm TB upgrade... from a Z31 forum, but the info is the same:
