Taillights Stay On

Recently went to start the Datsun, no go. Dead as can be dead battery. Charged it, got it to start hip hip hooray. Walked behind the Datsun and noticed the tailights are on. No other lights on the car are on. Just the taillights; cars off, keys out, nothing beeping inside. Disengaged the parking brake, they still stay on. Can't get them to go out. Went ahead and pulled the plug on both of them till I can figure out whats goin' on. I did notice though (haven't seen it before) some pieces of ambler plastic all over the floorboard on the drivers side from under the dash. Thick stuff, from the looks of it it would have been a shroom shape.

Any guesses on this problem? Or what the plastics from?

Thanks

It's the piece thats on the brake pedal that holds the brake light sensor in so the lights dont go on until you push the pedal. I had this same exact thing happen to me to the T. Found a couple of amber plastic pieces on the floorboard and eventually figured it out. I just put a bolt and nut assembly on the pedal assembly in it's place. It works like a charm.

Oh and if anyone knows if you can get that plastic stopper piece new anywhere, please inform. The bolt is kinda harsh on the switch. You can hear it clank against everytime I take my foot off the brake. Oh, and mooney, if you look at the pedal assembly, you can see there should be another one of these amber pieces on the brake pedal because there are two sensors. I think the other one is for the CC. ? But then you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Figured it was probably something along those lines. Sounds like I might need to go make a trip to the pick n pull and grab some spares. Preciate it though, quick response.

Might endup having to try to the bolt thing, did you think of wrapping the bolt in a type of rubber or foam to absorb the pressure?

I did the bolt thing and then wrapped electrical tape around it. This was about 18 months ago...still working good. You don't want to put anything too thick on the bolt, or the lights won't come on.

electical tape. That's a good idea, thanks ducky. Yeah when I put the bolt on I had to adjust the switch because the lights weren't coming on until I pushed the pedal down pretty far. I rewired my entire engine bay but couldn't think to do something so simple as that.
