if i drive my z until it gets hot then turn it off and wait 15 minutes or so when i try to start it agian it idlles really low for a couple of seconds then dies. sound familiar to anyone?

 

Yeah, it sounds very familiar! Mine is doing the exact same thing, and it's Pissing me off. If you rap the throttle a few times... it clears up and runs like an animal right? I was just getting ready to attack that problem when I saw your post. About a year ago, it started to do that same thing. After I replaced the fuel pump, it went away. Now, it's back. I'm pretty sure the pump is not the problem however. And, I know several things can cause it. I'll be working it out over the next few days. When I get to the bottom of it I will let you know.

Thanks that would help a lot. It's funny, it used to be my dad's car 10 years ago and when I ask him about it he just says"Yeah, it's always been like that." but i think it's getting worse, even when I pump the accelerator it doesn't come to life, I just have to sit there and crank it a bunch of times.

 

try a bottle of good fule system cleaner and see if it clears up. If so take out your injectors and clean by hand. also check filters.

or you can always just avoid the small prob for a bigger one and turn up the idle.

 

I wish it was something that simple... but no. that's the first thing I tried. Right now, virtually all of the fuel, intake and exaust in that car are brand-spanking new. New fuel pump, new lines, new filter, new rgulator, new injectors, new EGR, new BPT, new TVV, new lines, new inatke/exhaust gaskets, new exhaust from the head back including an oversized 3 way cat. The list goes on and on and on... As soon as it stops raining I'll stick my head in ther and see what's the deal.

Ahhhhh... SONOVABEEATCH! I may be wrong, but it just dawned on me. I'll bet it's the freaking cold start valve! I have a new one ready to install too, just haven't got around to it yet. Stay tuned...

I am having this exact same problem.... runs fine when cold, and once the car is turned off when its warm. Runs really hesitently. Almost like it is misfiring every 3-4 seconds with a low idle..... Once its wound up a little it runs fine?????

Test for faulty fuel injectors:

Remove all six metal clips around injector plugs (clips that hold the wire plugged into the back of each injector)
Leave all the wires plugged in
Warm up the engine / turn engine off
Turn on and see if misfiring
With gloves on, remove one wire at a time off the back of each injector then reconnect
If engine studders more then that injector was firing fine
If little or no change in idle, then that injector is suspect to being bad
If 3 or more injectors are suspect bad, then save your pennys to buy all new injectors

 

you know one of the members in my club has the same problem run sweet when its cold but once he turns it off it runs like crapola. cold start vale or new injectors? i wonder which one?

 

Hey Rod, have you figured it out yet?

 

I was reading through the factory manual and it mentions the vent line from the tank causing poor fuel delivery or vapor lock problems if the line is "stuffy". Anyone check this yet?
