Honda w/4wheel steering from factory?
Honda w/4wheel steering from factory?
I was totally blown away today when a older honda prelude came in to the shop and as the car was being moved in to its stall i noticed the rear wheels were moving in sync with the front and the damn thing turned on a dime. So I had to check it out and it was like that from factory. Or so it seemed . . .
Anyone ever seen or heard of a honda with this option? They still come with it?

Yeah the Prelude had all wheel steering from the factory starting in 88. But the 92+ models used a different system then the earlier system.
EDIT: And no, Honda doesn't do that anymore.

On my friend's 3rd gen 4WS Prelude, it's hella funny watching him turn the steering wheel at a dead stop: If I remember correctly, when he turned only slightly from center, the rear wheels are parallel with the fronts (for lane-changes I guess), and then if he keeps on turning the steering wheel, the rear wheels eventually straighten and turn in the opposite direction, for tighter turns. It seemed to be a simple mechanical system, but the later generations probably went with a fancier electronically controlled version.
Honda doesn't offer it on any of their cars. I dont know about their SUV's, van's or trucks though. It pretty much died out when the Prelude died out. As far as I know, its the only car Honda ever put it on. I know Nissan used it on some of the 240SX's and the Z32's (HICAS) I'm sure there are some European cars running around with it too
