Photoshop help...

I was wondering if someone can tell me how to place two pictures in the same canvas and use one of the pictures as a background.

I have PS 7, but I'm having trouble since Im new to this stuff.

Thanks,

Allen

You'd have to copy the image into the pallete with the other image. That image then should show up as a new layer. Now move the layers so that the one you want to be in the foreground is in front. Now all you have to do is just place and cut the foreground picture. If you need more indepth help let me know.

Basically what you're going to need to do is open up the rising sun picture. Now if you want to keep the rising sun pic at that size then you're going to have to shrink the car. Anyway here's what I did. I opened up the rising sun picture then enlarged it.

So on rising sun go to Image->Image Size: Then I made it 1074 by 716 Pixels

Then I went to the picture of the Z. In the little layers window you should see a small picture of that Car with the words Background and a little image of a lock next to it. What you can do is then double click on that and it will bring up a box where you can rename that layer. So name it whatever you want and then click ok. This will unlock the layer for you. So you can edit it more.

Now I took the magic wand tool and clicked on the white that's in the background of the Z. Now what this does is select everything but the Z, then you can hit delete and get rid of all that empty whitespace and make the area around the Z transparent. Now you can select the Z. I just hit Ctrl + A and that will select the whole picture. Now copy it(right click and then select copy, or Ctrl+ C) and then go back over to your Rising sun picture. Now paste your Z in(Ctrl + V, or Right click, then Paste). Voila, you now have your Z with the rising sun background.

Photoshop is kinda complicated at first, but once you start to get used to it, it's amazing what can be made with it. Give what I did a try and see if that helps you out. Post any other questions you may have.

sorry for the novice questions,

First of all were exactely is this "lock" your talking about? secondly when I select the car it also selects the background white. I'm guessing it has to do that I all ready deleted the images that I dont want but theres a break, linking the car the to white back ground. Anyway around this? maybe I could apply the redsun to the Z pic and then set is as background and finally fit it to the canvas. can I do this? and how?

Allen

this is the orginal picture

No problem. I'm not the best teacher either, so it's no wonder my tutorials are probably not the easiest to follow. I tried to throw together some images that might be able to help you.

see if that helps at all.

dont magic wand the car, magic wand the white. then hit Del. then use the move tool and drag the car on to the flag, and then re-size the car to fit the flag. i used CS2, but the process is the same in 7.

I'm using Photoshop 7. To get those other windows to shop up, what you can do is to go to the Window option at the top, you should be able to open up all those other windows.

thanks for the advice and major help there! I've finally got the windows to appear. All I need now is "play" with the program a little bit and get the hang of it.

Thx!
