what dremel do you like? my big stipulation is variable speed, and i also would like one with a high quality attachment fitting if that's possible. the ones i have used would just slip as soon as they hit metal.

 

Do you mean which model of the Dremel? Or are you also including the knock-off cheap "dremels" too?

I bought a Chicago Electric one from Harbor Freight for $9 on sale. It came w/ a 100pc attachment kit, which turned out to be the only thing worth $9. The motor on that CE one is absolute junk.

I do have a battery pack Dremel, which comes in handy for junk yards.

For the corded versions, go with either the 4000 ( http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pa....aspx?pid=4000 )

or the 300 ( http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pa...pid=300+Series )

You get what you pay for.

 

yeah i'm not trying to cheap out on it. that's why i'm asking for suggestions! i don't know that i necessarily need a dremel brand. like i said, whatever's good. i think i'll go for a corded version, because while i'm not trying to skimp, the cordless option isn't worth anything to me.

thanks for the links. it seems that the only difference between the 300 and 4000 is quality. i see very few differences in features. i think something like the 300 is pretty well suited for me.

Which doesn't always "cut it" (lulz) for small / delicate jobs.

Use the right tool for the right job (says I).

 

I've got angle grinders and the like, but like nismo said, more delicate jobs. Also, different range of fittings and bits

 

i have one of these:

same as the 4000 but in a different (better i think) case and uses 2.0amps instead of 1.6. not a huge difference.

the XPR is kind of designed to be able to hold it like a pen/pencil if you need too, the 4000 isnt and being able to hold like a pencil is kinda handy some times
