82 280ZX T-tops, 5spd, in TX

Well I'm not happy to say it, but I'm selling my Z. It's a wicked sports car, but I'm 17 and right now with school and that I don't need a cool, quick car, but I need a nice dependable vehicle that will take me long distances without a worry.

But don't take that as saying this car doesn't run well. Because this car actually runs very well, and it's 5-speed transmission shifts flawlessly, and the clutch is good as well. As the title says, its a 1982 Datsun 280ZX with T-tops. This is the 2-seater coupe. I got the driver's side T-top to stop leaking, the passenger side has a very small leak in it. Nothing major. I put in a brand new battery 2 weeks ago, new AC belt, new radio, new spark plugs, spark plug wires, and new oil 2 months ago.

The driver's side floor board has 2 holes in it, both are covered with metal and unnoticeable with the carpet on top. The windshield doesn't leak but it looks like some rust was covered up and painted across the top. If the car were to be repainted, that would need to be sanded down. There are no major dents on the car, just a few door dings. It is tagged and inspected, I use it as my daily driver. No problems from it to speak of. It's got 218,000 miles on it, but as ya'll know, if well maintained, these motors can go a long time. Power steering works without any whines, AC works but needs recharged, the air only comes from the floor vents. Vaccuum hoses would probably be needed to fix that, I'm not positive.

The car has treated me well, but I'm after my dream car--A 1977-79 Ford Thunderbird. $1500 takes this car. Willing to negotiate or trade for a 77-79 Thunderbird in good shape.

The car is sold.

when I was your age a 280ZX was the dependable long distance car I needed. A Thunderbird won't be that for you.
The non-turbo fuel injected L28 is about as dependable and easy to maintain as they come.

Yeah, virtually no American car can approach Japanese reliability. But, I am not opposed to trading everything I have for a 1934 Ford Woody complete with picninc table sized surfboard on the roof

Well the car had alot of problems(as I learned when I took it to be inspected) that I didn't notice. Tie rod ends were bad. No bushings. Rack and pinion system fairly shot, also needed new boots. Bad frame damage and rust from a wreck. Front tires able to be moved an inch in every direction. It ran good. The previous owners took great care of the motor. But the other things it needed were going to be too great of a cost for me.

I wish I could afford that low mileage Thunderbird, but I couldn't. Instead, I got a 1991 Mercury Capri of similair mileage to the 280ZX but much better maintaned and from the second owner. Heat, AC, no rust. A Texas car. I'll miss the Z. And someday, when I've got the funds for a project, I'll get another.
