1980 280ZX parts or parts car 4-sale

I'm retiring my 1980 GL 2-seater. Too much rust and suspension is way to bad to warrant fixing on a 273,000 mile car. The engine has been rebuilt some time prior to my ownership...still blows 150-155 psi and is very strong. I swapped in a T-5 manual trans a couple years ago and replaced the clutch at the same time. Let me know what you need and we'll talk prices (Binson2000@yahoo.com).

Gas tank already spoken for.

You will definitely need the drive shaft as well.

Sorry all, car sold complete last night.
By the way, if you wanna do a T-5 swap the you need the trans mount, t-5 driveshaft, and matching differential flange, the flywheel from turbo or NA car will work along with either slave cylinder.

The rear transmission mount is the same. You actually turn the NA tranny mount around 180 and it bolts back onto the car and lines up perfect with the T5. ya, and don't forget the differential flange.

what the deal with the T5 swap will i get more go for my flow
MY AT SEEMS slow off the go but faster that old blue from 30mph to 70mph real good pick up i the upper end .But it will not burn off just power to the ground and then she gone i really want more lower end for drifting i like sliding around coners
is the differential flange the bell housing ?

That's because it is slow off the standing start. It won't burn off because the 1st gear is too high so you can't get enough torque to the wheels to get them to break loose. This will actually make you faster off the line than just about any kid with a 5.0 Mustang and 5 speed. I had a friend that used to smoke 'em in the first 100 feet because Mustang driver didn't know how to feather a clutch on a car with that much torque and they would just spin at the light while he was pulling away in his '80 280zx auto.

The differential flange is not the bell housing.

The T5 swap won't get you anything more than a Nissan 5 speed swap at this point and the Nissan 5 speeds are far more prevelant. You're significantly hampered by the auto tranny and any manual swap will be light years better than what you have but it'll be a pain to do the conversion unless you know what you're doing. You'll have to cut the firewall and mount/route the clutch pedal, cable and master cylinder. You'll also need a new manual interior console since the MT shifter moves differently than the AT.

Some have successfully done a 4 speed auto swap from a later Maxima but I can't remember what years off the top of my head. It may have been an 84 or 85, I don't recall what year the Maxima went to a V6 but this would be the easiest swap. It won't give you better acceleration, but will give you overdrive for better top end and fuel economy.

The trans cross-member is also required for that swap since it is off-set for the T-5 and the 2 seater car has a straight cross-member. As Bleach said, the transmission mount is the same.

no, no, no! The crossmember AND mount are the same! I wasted $50 for a "T5" crossmember. When I pulled the nissan unit out I examined them both and realized they are exactly the same!!!

Also, I looked at the firewall on his auto, and he's already got the hole and bolt holes for the clutch master (with a plastic plug in there from the factory) and even the mounting holes for the clutch hydralic line are there! It looks like a bolt-in swap with the right parts. I'm not sure about the clutch pedal, but I would guess the mounts are there too. They were on my 1978 Datsun truck when i swaped from auto to 5-speed.

The differential flange is the piece that the driveshaft bolts onto on the front end of the differential. Here is what they look like. You can swap one off of a turbo (3.54) diff and put it on a different diff like a 3.7 LSD or 3.9

Here is the MOUNT itself for the transmission. Both the same

Here are the Nissan non-turbo rear crossmember and T5 crossmember

Here is a view of it installed.

As you mentioned, it is offset rearward. You turn it around so it offsets forward for the non-turbo Nissan transmission. I don't know if this applies to an automatic transmission though. We're talking all 5-speeds.

The 83-84 Maxima is the 4-speed auto. 1985 was the first year of the V6
A friend of mine recently put one of these 4-speed autos in his 620 truck. He has a 2.4L LZ series engine he custom made.... sorta.

For more torque, you're definatly going to want to swap in a 3.9 rearend. Maybe even a 4.11 if all you do is drift and slide into ditches!

Bleach, was the car you were swapping it into your 2+2? My original crossmember is straight and the T-5 was offset.
I don't know if I'd recommend the swapping in a 3.90-4.11 rear end in a turbo car. My NA had a 3.90 rear end and I was shifting all the time! You want that turbo spooled and going a lot longer then those gears will provide. I could be in 4th at 25 mph with out any problems.
