Time to do some work: Is this ok?
Are we allowed to change the oil on our 350Z's or do we have to take it to a shop? :paranoid:
|
seriously?????
oil changes dont void warranty last time i checked. lol. if yours is even under warranty still |
lol :D
my warranty is good until April 2009 or 30,000 miles or something... |
just make sure to add that extra quart!
|
pffft.... just use water. its cheaper
|
i heard you can use fudge. oh, and let's do a port and polish on our Zs this weekend bleach. i know where to get sand cheap!

Also, a good idea to replace the crush washer everytime you change the oil.

on that extra quart idea from hoov. yeah, dont do that. to much oil and you do bad things, of coarse, im sure you knew that bleach. the real answer is, run the car after adding recomended amount then check the oil level to be centered on the dipstick line. |
well if he needs more oil pressure he can add the extra quart
|
Hoov may be referring to the oil consumption problem that most 2003 and 2006 engines have. After 6000 miles mine does not seem to have that issue... so far. I'll be keeping a close eye on it though.

lol... right... no hoov likes the extra quart cause of oil slosh he thinks on super tight turns over and over it will get oil starvation cause he said his buddies VW did it once. but unfortunatly too much oil is alot more stress on the crank and such and will blow bearings

yea sure, 10 quarts in a 5 quart systme would get you what? 500psi idle? sounds like plenty to me |

seriously? ^^^^ no like.... really? or is that sarcasm to the "can i change my oil" question?
just in case, yes, yes you can. you can do any maintanence that doesnt require a certified mechanic to complete the work for another person. shop work. like wheel bearings, exhaust stuff, anything electrical other than lights and fuses. body damage. what not. |
Just to clarify (for those who have never bought a new car) there are plenty of cheesy rules you must follow to keep the factory warranty from being voided. Try reading the super fine print someday... you will be amused.
My sis in law just bought a new Hyundai... their 100k mile warranty is voided if they take the car TO ANY NON-HYUNDAI REPAIR / SERVICE SHOP. That includes a quick oil change at JiffyLube. And we all know how cheap Dealer services are... Makes ya wanna smile eh? :D |

Makes ya wanna smile eh? :D Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act “No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name....” (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). Understanding the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act "Tie-In Sales" Provisions Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions. Example: In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty. Edited: to add quote from Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. |

and final jeopardy begins. |

lol, stillen is a great company, only prob is, they dont make alot of their own parts, they are just re-named and raised price japanese products. and nismo is just already really high priced japanese products. wither way, i wouldnt go with either. sept maybe stillen SMIC's for the Z32, and nismo injectors for the same car.
|
Stillen doesn't make 'air' for the Z32 :D haha!
|
I did it! w00t!
first oil change done and my car still runs.... amazing. This aint no L28 fooz! oil changes are actually pretty easy to do. The splash shield fully protects the engine which is nice. Keeps it super clean. The oil filter is really easy to get to on this engine and it doesn't leak oil on the engine mount when removed. (like the L28) this car is just so low even with stock springs.... :D |
Allright!:038:
Yeah oil changes are very easy once you get that shield off....and thats not hard just time-consuming. My car has been lowered and has a body kit but I have no trouble getting it up on the low profile Rhino ramps. Reminds me...she's due for an oil change next month.:) |
nice thing about the Z32 when i had it was it was a full splash shield down there to, but they had openings molded in them for access to the oil drain plug and oil filter so you didnt have to remove anything.

and yeah dude, there is a splash shield, splastic one, covers a good area under the engine. dont you have one? |
no... i might want to look into that... mine would probably break anyway from all the oil and PS fluid that dripping into it! lol jkjk
|
Hey Bleach, how often do you plan on changing the oil on the 350? I generally change mine twice a year.....but since I only put 4,000-5,000 miles a year on the car and I use synthetic oil, I wonder if once a year is enough? Anyone have any opinions on this?
|
Right now I'm not using synthetic. I plan to change it every 5000 miles.
I will probably drive less than 10,000 miles a year. In my truck I run synthetic (since the original owner did since new) and change the oil and filter every 10k miles. K&N oil filters only on that one. They are made to last longer. |
change every 3 months or 3k miles. if its in the tank longer and you dont put much on it, the oil starts to build moisture since it doesnt get hot and also it wil start to create acids in the oil from sitting. just happens.

but I'm not taking your advice. I'll stick to my plan. |

hmmm. from maintanence class maybe. i wouldnt just make that up, and if its being tought in college, im sure there mechanics/teacher didnt make it up either. i wouldnt let oil sit for any longer than 5 months.

its not completely sitting. I drive the car every week. My Z has sat for probably 4 days unused at the most.
for me it'll probably be an oil change every 6 months. |
synthetic will be different as far as the acids go yes, i can agree to that, but moisture build up from not be driven/getting hot will be the same. every week should be aight though.

yeah not worth payin money to get my old oil checked when i pay 10k a year at college and get told that. oh and its aviation maintanence, something taken much more seriously than auto mobile maintainance so im sure they have checked that, nothing is made up in the aviation world, excpet the FAA stamp of aproval on parts, thats BS. lol
|
is that a hint of superiority i hear in your voice there? too good for cars now mr. aviator????
