Time to do some work: Is this ok?
Are we allowed to change the oil on our 350Z's or do we have to take it to a shop? :paranoid:

I would go ahead and do it yourself. I would just keep receipts of the oil and filter you used just to be safe. And get ready to set aside an hour the first time you do it (thats what it took me anyway). Theres a 14 bolt plastic panel you have to remove to get to the plug and filter (its real easy after that). Also, a good idea to replace the crush washer everytime you change the oil.

on that extra quart idea from hoov. yeah, dont do that. to much oil and you do bad things, of coarse, im sure you knew that bleach. the real answer is, run the car after adding recomended amount then check the oil level to be centered on the dipstick line. |

Hoov may be referring to the oil consumption problem that most 2003 and 2006 engines have. After 6000 miles mine does not seem to have that issue... so far. I'll be keeping a close eye on it though.

lol... right... no hoov likes the extra quart cause of oil slosh he thinks on super tight turns over and over it will get oil starvation cause he said his buddies VW did it once. but unfortunatly too much oil is alot more stress on the crank and such and will blow bearings

just in case, yes, yes you can. you can do any maintanence that doesnt require a certified mechanic to complete the work for another person. shop work. like wheel bearings, exhaust stuff, anything electrical other than lights and fuses. body damage. what not. |
Just to clarify (for those who have never bought a new car) there are plenty of cheesy rules you must follow to keep the factory warranty from being voided. Try reading the super fine print someday... you will be amused.
My sis in law just bought a new Hyundai... their 100k mile warranty is voided if they take the car TO ANY NON-HYUNDAI REPAIR / SERVICE SHOP. That includes a quick oil change at JiffyLube. And we all know how cheap Dealer services are... Makes ya wanna smile eh? :D |
