Auto or Stick?
i like sticks better.you are more in control.better to steer with the throttle
.same reason i prefer rear wheel drive.oh yea,and a true sports car has two seats,a true roadster doesnt even have a retractable top.

Yes emo26--I agree, to each his own. But to label an auto Z not a sports car I believe is wrong. Times change, for example there used to be no TCS, vented brakes, ect. Also insurance co.'s put the Z, stick or auto as a high preformance sports car. James things in D.C. as well as everywhere have changed greatly in 14 years. I hope I don't come across as a a**hole, I was just trying to start what I thought would be an interesting thread.
I don't think you came across bad. And I agree with you. The range of what's a sports car and what isn't has changed. I mean, tell an M5 owner he doesn't own a sports car b/c he has 4 doors right after he just smothered your NA or your stock TT.

Seems to me this is like discussing religion and politics; the subject cannot be settled. I could not fathom driving an automatic Z, I truly enjoy deciding which gear is best for my car. Zingin' around a corner at full throttle with the shifter in 2cnd watching the rpms slip into the red and just at the right time (for me) drop it into third. Then that hard pull as the rear tries to slide out and out run the nose. I've never felt that with an automatic.
I drove truck over the road for years. I've driven 10 and 13 speeds in just about every big city in the lower 48 states. If grabbing gears in the city was too much for me I think I would buy me one of those hoverrounds I see advertised on tv. I think medicaid even covers them.
Automatics are like kissing your sister, no point.

Well I guess we all have our preferences, I was glad to trade in my Camaro SS w/stick for the auto. Z car. I drive for enjoyment not time slips. Driving a stick in traffic sucks---but some don't mind it.

I'm guessing the later of the 2 choices. I'd would prefer any model Z, manual or auto tranny, over a Camaro, but that's just me.

It was a '02 SS manual. With only 2,000 miles on it, one morning I was feeling my oats and clicked off the TCS and punched it. I was doing great until I came up on a slight curve, power shifting into 4th, when I hit an oil slick. I spun out over the curb and into the trees. After the repairs ( my insurance co. paided out 8 grand ) I noticed the Z car on the dealers lot and really liked the looks of it. I went with the auto because I just got tired of shifting all the time ( maybe if I had more open roads in good shape, I would have stayed stick ). The Camaro SS was a powerhouse on wheels, it was fun to drive, but it's no sports car. I still get alittle gun-shy when I see the SLIP light flash.

SS's are no joke if you ask me. Yes, a Z is an awesome car and IMO a better car in all aspects compared to the camaro, but SS's aren't slow to say the least. My neighbor has a Z28 with mods and my bud back at home has an SS with a few mods as well. The torque is amazing.
Yeah but Camaros can only go straight
. I think cornering is much more fun, straights tend to bore me. Plus its American and it may be fast but they aren't nearly as reliable. March is my Z31s 18th Birthday and it still hasn't ever broken down or had any problems. I would like to see a domestic pull that off. Sorry if this is off topic.

happy early Birthday to your Z31. anyway, for autox manual is a lot better, but for drag racing Auto might be better, bc you can just take off like hell from the line. Now i don't preffer auto over manual, and i would never trade my 5spd for and auto, but if your auto is modded, and your tranny can handle it, you'll get the best time off the line, but you might not be able to push it into the high rpms as you would with a 5 spd. and chrisc0623 i agree with you. i love just stepping on my Z as i exit the corner, and then shifting into the third. i love listening to my exhaust as i do that
yea, that's the thing about a muscle car. They're really good at going in a straight line and that's it. This is a direct quote form my neighbor with the Z28:
"I wish I had your car. It can actually stop and turn...mine can't."
"I wish I had your car. It can actually stop and turn...mine can't."
LOL yeah. I am a cornering guy (another reason I love Manuals). Plus there is the control thing I like to decide what is going on, I also don't like a computer shifting for me, but thats just me. And I am an autocross guy so the stick is the only way to go for me. But I understand everyone has their own preferences. Thanks for saying Happy birthday my Z is getting old but I still love it (odd thing is my almost 18 year old Turbo Z31 still puts up a fight and beats loads of modern day sports cars, and it did when it was stock too
). Now that its turning 18 it is getting pampered with goodies even though it is in excellent condition for its age I have a two tone with pin stripping in the middle. Even though the paint is still good the paint on my bumpers has oxidized and the pin stripping on the rear bumper is coming off but oh well its BDAY present is a new paint job.

Emo, are you sure about that Roush statement? The vette that your speaking of is the base C5, not the Z06, right? Even if you're right, I'd still choose a vette. I smoked a Roush Mustang not too long ago. Those things are ugly.
yes, I am sure, and I'm talking about the Z06. And yes you probably did smoke a Roush....stage II or lower. There are hardly any stage III's on the road. I got to talk to a guy that had one. He said he had many modded Vette's before he got the Roush. He had a supercharged Z06 and he said the Roush had about the same amount of power but handled better. And no, it's not a factory car, but it's the same price as a Z06. And it can be bought at a dealership like any factory car.
