Timing Belt Cover
HEY GUYS,
MYSELF AND ANOTHER FELLOW Z OWNER ARE HAVING A BIT OF AN ARGUEMENT ON WETHER TIMING BELT COVERS CAN BE LEFT OFF THE ENGINE ON A REBUILD.
HE SAYS THAT IT WOULDNT MATTER IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM. WHERE ON THE OTHER HAND I ARGUE THAT THE TOP TWO YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH, BUT LEAVING THE BOTTOM METAL COVER OS FOOLHARDY,
ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS TO FINALLY SETTLE THIS ARGUEMENT BEFORE WE RESORT TO VIOLENCE

It doesn't really make a difference either way. The timing belt cover is there to keep dirt and other crap out of the pulleys and sprockets. That's it. You can leave them all on, leave them all off, or any combination of the two. Makes no difference.

The likeliness of something (rocks, sticks, bolts, squirels and rodents) flying into the pullies, sprockets, belts is remote however the possibility does exist. The z will run the same with or without the cover.
The cover does offer some protection, that's it. The gamble is all yours.

many thanks guys, i think i may just leave it off then , and settle for losing the minor conflict with my friend.... probably easier to monitor the state of the timing belt anyway..
