somthings up with my motor:(

ok im going to try to explain the problem to the best of my ability.

I was working on my dad's zx and happened to look at what i think is a adjustible cam gear or ignition timing thingy..........well anyway it was set to a center position and my zx has been moved all the way to the far right. Is that a problem?
ohh yeah i forgot my z is a 93 and so is my pops but his 2+2.

if anyone can tell me if the adjustment sombody made was good or bad....or even why they did it would be greatly appreciated.

ok, you're probably describing the Cam Angle Sensor (CAS) but you didn't mention if your car is running badly because of it. That'll just advance or retard the timing. A little advancement is ok. It won't hurt the car, might actually help depending on how far advanced. If it's only a few degrees off, you're fine.

thanx for the info!... and yes my car does runs a little weird. it hic-ups at around 2500-4000 rpm the the adjustment is all the way to the right. is that advanced or retarded? btw i live in california so the highest octane level is 91 (sucks huh) i have a guess that the gas rating is too low for the timing of my car but again if you can clear this problem again i would appreciate it :D

All the way to the right is fully advanced. You'll need a timing light to correct the timing. If you don't have one try a trusted mechanic or shop. 15degrees is the correct reading. Is your car a California emissions car? If it isn't that could also be a problem. To check, look under the hood. There should be an emissions sticker giving all of the information stuck on the underside.
The hiccup you mentioned could be that or some other things. Check your hoses for a vacuum leak. You might want to have the throttle position sensors checked as well.
And yes, California emissions and gas does suck! LOL :p

THANX!! i set the CAS back to the original spot added a little 100 octane. the car runs better especially around 4500-7100rpm. i looked at the throttle sensor and i practicly slipped off! and it looked like there was mold or some green crap in it, this goes to my other connecters too ...@$%#... another problem!!! ohh well i still love my Z!!
