Re: Removing a shift ****
You need to change the bushings in the shifter. This is what is causing your play.
Look here on how to remove it. It has the whole process: http://capitalzoftexas.com/archives/techtips/02/

Yea the looseness is caused by bad bushings, as for the shifter itself you are doing the right thing. It is locked down with lock-tights and you need to use a lot of force to get it off. Take a washcloth and wrap tightly around the shifter, take a wrench and clamp it down on the cloth and TWIST. You will hear some poping but you are not breaking anything, it is just the lock-tights undoing. Then it will come off.

You can get the bushings from here. http://www.courtesyparts.com
They cost $1.39 per bushing I think. If you do a search on the web site for shifter bushing it will not bring up the right one for your car. Place your order by phone so you can talk to someone and have them lookup the correct part number. I did not do this. I just order what I saw on the web site and received bushings for a 200sx that cost $8. I will say that they were very understanding when I emailed and explained what happened. The sent me the correct part next day with free shipping.

GOODHUMOR
I am not sure if pepboys carrys this part. My guess is no because every post here that I read asking for parts is always answered with courtesyparts.com. But it never hurts to ask. Does anyone else here know if you can get the bushings from pepboys?
