I just replaced my High PSI power steering hose and the pump whine is still there after I drove about 5-10 miles and followed the procedure about turning lock to lock 3-4 times. I am just curious if others have had this problem and if it finally went away. I just do not want to ruin my pump. Thanks

I just replaced mine about a week ago and havn't heard a whine. Your power steering pump might be going out.Originally Posted by tsefreeflow

my experience............ it's either low on fluid or the pump is going bad. If it's old and the belt is not slipping (squealing) don't tighten the belt. That will kill it for sure. I once bought a rebuilt p/s pump, put it on, it whined, took it back off and got another one.
Thanks guys, I dont think it is the pump. It did not whine at all before I changed it, the hose was leaking so I got the rebiult one from Z1. Now I am thinking the hose is the culprit because the diameter of the hose they gave me is about 1/2 of what the original is. This makes me feel they gave me the wrong one. Could this starve the pump for the proper amount of fluid, causing the whine?
I just called them and ask them about that and they said it is the same diameter on the inside as the out side. I dont know, but that is hard to believe. Has anyone done this change with Z1 high PSI power steering hose?

That's impossible. The OD and the ID can't be the same. Were they trying to say that the ID is the same on both hoses, but that the OD is smaller on their hose compared to the factory?

Yeah, they said that it is smaller than stock looking from the outside, but the inside diameter is the same. Hum! Even if it is not, would this cause the system to starve for fluid, since I seem not to be able to bleed the system enough to stop the buzzing or whinning?

Did you take both lines off and possibly get them switched? Even if it was a smaller hose it wouldn't affect the pump, it would affect the steering rack and the effort required to turn the wheel.
what do you mean switch the lines?

I don't know................. There's usually two power steering hoses. One from the pump to the rack and a return line. If they were switched, the p/s might work but there could be flow problems.Originally Posted by tsefreeflow

Interesting thought, I will check on that. Thanks
