Before I say anything on this subject, I would like some of your thoughts on the EGR delete & coolant bypass. I will be pulling the plenum for the first time in the near future, so I want to have everything planned before I get started. Do these procedures save time if removal is necessary again in the future? Thanks

 

Absolutely.

Do it.

Its really easy to do the coolant bypass. The egr might be a little tricky without the motor being out of the car, but definitely do it.

Getting a new intake gasket is a good idea as well. I pulled mine and didnt use a new gasket and I had to wind up pulling it again. With the bypass it takes about 15-20 minutes to pull the plenum. Its probably one of the best things you can considering how long it would take to change the injectors and all that other bs.

Do the bypasses.

 

Thanks for the feedback. I'm planning on doing it because I need to replace an injector, but I'm not ready to do the upgrade at the moment, so when I'm ready I can get the plenum off with less trouble.

Has anyone deleted the egr without removing the engine? I'd rather not pull the engine at this time and would like to know what I'm getting into. Thanks

 

I think you can jack the transmission up a little which should make it easier. The bolts are really long, that seems to be one of the issues.

 

I did. I cut the tubing where needed to get it out in pieces. The bolts that hold the valve itself to the back of the block are long enough to hit the firewall before they are out. I screwed the bolts out as far as possible, cut some off, then screwed them the rest of the way out with pliers.

Have block off plates for the intake and a plug for the exhaust ready if you can't build them yourself.

Hey doms, I'm in NJ too... Since the state is more concerned about polluting the air than the overall safety of the car, did you have any problems passing the emissions test at inspection after the egr delete?

 

No.

And no one knows what to look for as far as the delete goes.

have you done it yet im doing a plenum pull to and i was thinking about removing the ERG was it hard to do?

 

I have done it once and it was a total and complete PITA. Words cannot describe how much of a PITA it is to do with the motor in the car. I would seriously only look into taking the EGR plenum tubes off if the motor is still in the car.

 

so you think i should just leave it in when i pull the plenum i think mine is working ok

 

what about the part that connects to the exhaust can i just leave that on or should i take that off to? or could i just cut that nipple that connect to the plenum with a hacksaw and sandwich the plates in between
