you're going to buy a MSD what? with an external coil that you're going to hook up to what?
you realize that the Z32 has direct ignition right?
you realize that the Z32 does not have spark plug wires right?
if you really want to improve your ignition system i would ask why? lol
you have a NA, it's not really necessary but if you really have the need to spend money, you could buy an HKS ignition amplifier. I'd also suggest to replace your spark plugs with a set of oem plugs and if you'd like to thin our your wallet further you could opt to replace all your ignition coils as well.

For a Z32 you have 4 options for ignition upgrades.
A Full Haltech racing ignition (I dont know anyone with it other than Mike Vale, and he ditched the system)
An AEM full engine management system with ignition control
An HKS DLI Ignition Aplifier...basically alters the stock ignition signal (like an MSD setup.

The forth option is the one I am going to get for my NA Z. It is dyno proven to make power on Z1's dyno for NAs. And it is really simple to install. A company called SplitFire Japan makes a set of racing coil packs for our cars. Shawn Hollowman say up to around 7 rwhp gained from them I believe. They cost in the neightborhood of $500.

In the world of tuning a NA...everything is expensive. And every little horsepower counts.

While you are right that he has no need for an external coil, there are other MSD ignition options for the 300ZX... several guys on TT.NET have MSD ignition systems installed on their cars. MSD doesn't make a 6 cylinder version at the moment, so you'd need dis2 and dis4 packs to power all 6 cylinders with this method, but it can be done...

another option is the B&M New Volt, which is being used by Joel (Z32Power.com)

On the other hand... Riz is right... you have an NA, increasing your coil pack voltage won't net you much gain, if any.
