oil pressure

I just bought a 1996 n/a base model with 89500 miles on it, and my oil pressure sits around 2psi at an idle. It varies between 2 and 60, but the number seems abnormally low and i was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on if thats alright and, if not, what it could possibly be. I repeatedly check the oil and its still in there, its not leaking or dripping from anywhere. could it just be my gauge?

The sending units are commonly problematic. Try replacing that at the next oil change.

If the oil pressure still reads low, it could be an oil pump or bearing problem.

So the sending units will not affect my performance, nor are they a big enough problem that i should thinkabout replacing them right away?

As long as your motor is showing oil pressure and it increases with RPMs, you're not in immediate danger.

And a sending unit is just the sensor...

I know that, what I meant to say was if it would mean I wouldn't be able to accurately read the oil pressure. Thanks zlover

If you're that worried about it, replace the sending unit... but you'll have to do an oil change when you do it, because it'll require removing the filter and you'll lose a considerable amount of oil in the process. It's not a bad idea to change the oil early, but if I were you, I wouldn't be too worried about it, as long as some pressure is registering and the pressure increases with the RPMs.

Well, I just bought the car two weeks ago and immediately changed the oil, which is only 200 miles in at this time, so ill just wait until my next change, since it is registering and increasing with RPMs.

Is this a TT thing? It wasn't necessary to remove the filter on my NA.
