Name that SOUND!

Hello everyone..
Here ie my dilemma. I car is making a weird noise at idle and even when i drive .. can't hear it as much.. i have been told from 2 major Nissan mechanics that used to work on these cars.. that it was a timing belt/tensioner.. loose and slapping the cover.. tell me what u guys think.. i was also told that it could be the cam sprockets ... either way its going to cost me a f*cking fortune.

This video was taking before i put my koyo rad, UR race pulleys and a test pipes were installed.. i think its worse now... This was taking about 1-2 months ago.. Let me know

Isn't that the same sound you posted up before? Where is that thread?

Sounds like something in the valve train...... bad lifter, bent valve, major oil flow restriction. Is there any metal in your oil when you drain it? I would definitely go thru the process of doing the timing belt and checking everything very closely. If it doesn't go away with a new t-belt and pullies, I'd then look at pulling the valve cover for a close inspection. By the sound I hear, that noise is leaving a mark somewhere.

sounds like fun to me

one question, does the noise change when you put in the clutch? if so, its your throwout bearing, if it doesn't and im pretty sure it wont, it sounds like one of the bushings on the crank bolt (front of engine behind the timing belt cover bottom) is rubbing. there are two bushings...you will replace at least one of them in the 120k kit. Sounds like the timing belt has frayed a bit and is making the bushing rub agaisnt the metal cover. Enjoy putting that 120k kit on...its so much fun!

ya i fixed it.. it was my VTC (variable timing control) intake cam gears.. its a two piece design and it was worn out apparently .. i replaced the entire 120k kit and it sounds good .. btw what does it cost to replace teh throughoiut bearing and i guess u do that when u do the clutch right?

bearing

it comes with a new clutch kit, so when you replace your next clutch it will be there to replace too. i think they go for about 50$ seperately.

You can get good stock replacement clutch kits for as little as $100 and go up from there in cost. Paying someone else to install a new clutch in your car starts at around $500 and goes up from there. No matter what, don't forget a new rear main oil seal too. It is not part of the clutch kit and you would have to specifically request this if you have someone do the work for you.
