How does this sound.

Ive owned 2 80's Z's that have giving me great mileage, and great times. I recently sold my 86 and bought a 93 N/A 2+2 with 68k on it. I got the car for $6,000. Brand new tires, beautiful Blue Metallic paint that changed color in the light. Body is in good condition, has a few dings in it. But it is 10 years old. Theres no problems with the car that are visible, or feel. I bought it with bad pads, and rotors that are miced at throw away, which im changing this week. And also changing the puffy upper radiator hose. Smoke blows clean, did the plugs, did the oil, did the air filters. Car runs a little roufh once in a while. Not all the time. It idles at 1000, but once in a while it will drop to 800-900. Sometimes in the morning Ill start it up and it will idle good drop for about 2 seconds to around 600 then resume the normal high idle for the initial start up. Is this a normal thing or something to have checked out. Ive had the car at 120mph and it handled nicely, didnt smell, didnt shake that much, didnt bog out or do anything bad. Is it a good idea to have the car, engine and tranny, checked out at the Nissan Dealership or should I bring it to a private shop. I have a family mechanic, who is a decent guy. What should I look for. I dont know as much about these ones as I do the 80's models. I think I got a pretty good deal on the car. I bought it in pa, it has no rust, no major body flaws, drove it home over 2 hours at normal speed. I can feel it in the seat that the car shakes a little when I hit 60 and over when accelerating, not when cruising. Any reply would be great.

That sounds about right. You paid about average. I also have a '93 2+2.

Changing the brakes might get rid of that vibration. One of the discs might be warped. But you're gonna replace them anyway.
The idle thing might be a vacuum hose loose or corroded. You might wanna check over those.

As far as a shop or mechanic goes, go with whoever you trust. If you think your family mechanic is up to the task, good. If you wanna take it to a private shop, just make sure that they're familiar with your car. A Nissan dealership doesn't necessarily know that much about your car either because of its age. Some dealerships happen to have a Z specialist, most on the other hand don't. Just something else you might want to check on before you submit your new baby to some undo wrenching.

If you'd like to learn more about the second generation 300zx, this forum is a good source. Keep searching past posts. There are an abundance of other forums as well. A service manual is a good thing to invest in, especially if you like to fix and maintain your car yourself.

Thanks alot. Ive been looking through a bunch of the posts and trying to find out about the cars alittle more. Around here in NJ, the same car goes for about 10-12,000 with about 20-30k more miles on them so i think i got a good deal. I def do like fixing them myself, thanks for the help.
