Misfire

ok, so my z started acting up, it misfires and sputters i tried new plugs and it did not help, maybe a coil? whats my best way to find out wich cylynder is not fireing. i guess what im asking is what should i check next. im kinda in trouble here cuz i sold my other car today(bad idea i know). thanks in advance, by the way its a 90 na 2+2 z32

b300z 08-13-2006 06:42 PM

you can check each cylinder by unhooking the cylinder's coil pack and listening for an rpm change....if there isnt a drop, you found the culprit cylinder

also, there have been a few threads lately about engine misfire and rough idle and such in the tech forum... check out the links in those threads

ZOMBIEEATER 08-13-2006 09:38 PM

thank you.

snwbrderphat540 08-14-2006 11:58 AM

yeah there were, me for one, tried everything, just to find out it was low compression...you should find that bad cylinder and first off, check the compression make sure your not gonna waste money like me.

ZOMBIEEATER 08-14-2006 10:19 PM

i was afraid it may be a dead cylinder, i found wich one it was and took it to get a compression check, i should find out tomarrow

ZOMBIEEATER 08-17-2006 09:58 AM

the #6 injector is bad, and that sucks

duowing 08-17-2006 11:47 AM

Hey, look at this way. Injector being bad is way better than low compression. It's way cheaper to fix, and way easier.

ZOMBIEEATER 08-17-2006 10:27 PM

yes, very true! does anyone know what color the #6 injector is, also it deffinatly seems like i have to take off the whole intake manifold off to get to the injectors does anyone have any suggestions before i start? what do you guys think about this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FUEL-...spagenameZWD1V

snwbrderphat540 08-18-2006 10:19 AM

i might have a fule injector i can send you for the price of shipping....i have no use for it.
i took it outta my na 300 thinking (oh yeah its form a 90 though) that the injector was bad in that cylinder. replaced it ot no change. found out the compression was bad. i almost cried. but i sold the car as if it were perfect so i guess i lucked out.

snwbrderphat540 08-18-2006 10:21 AM

haha..i just realized yours is a 90 as well.....so its all good.

duowing 08-18-2006 11:28 AM

Sounds like it'll be somewhat of a pain, but if it's anywhere remotely near the process I had to go through with the Z31, it shouldn't be all that hard to do. I know for the Z31 I basically had to remove the engine cover plate, intake collector, intake manifold and then I was at the injectors. It really didn't take anywhere near as long as I thought it would. If you've got a Haynes or an FSM you should be pretty well off.

snwbrderphat540 08-18-2006 01:54 PM

for us. you have to remove teh intake plenum....which is a bitch and a half. or theres this "dremel way" where you grind the plenum just enough to fit a screw driver down there to loosen the injector cover plate and then pull it all out. the danger of this though it you can go to far and drind a hole in your plenum. i did this. but fixed it with high temp epoxy and some kevlar sheeting.....worked great...still a stupid ass mistake, and all due to careless and laziness. but i also sold the car a week later. so its no longer my problem i guess.

snwbrderphat540 08-18-2006 01:55 PM

if you wnat suggestions....search this site this topic has come up quite a bit...especially by me lol. there are some good posts and links to writeups on how to properly remove the plenum...or even the dremel method.

ZOMBIEEATER 08-18-2006 07:26 PM

thanks for the info guys, snwbrd let me get the injector out so i can compare it to yours but i may be better off using a new one, either way thanks for the offer.has anyone used the ebay rebuilt injectors from my other post, for the price of one new dealer injector i could replace all 6 w/these

Comorat2x2 08-18-2006 08:54 PM

In my experiance with my 93 NA 2+2 rebuilt is not a good option when brand new is availible. These cars eat rebuilds for lunch.....at least mine does.

snwbrderphat540 08-19-2006 09:28 AM

oh i found a place on Riz's vendor link. search for misfire and injector, a post i started. i list a company that i got a BRAND NEW injector for my car at only 60 somehting dollars. they were on crazy sale. i dont know if they still are. (btw it wasnt my injector i wasted money.......doh) but yeah they were a really good price compared to the usualy 116 dollars or w/e they are. good luck with the injector removal. if your doin it by yourself and its your first time. patience. thats all that matters.

ZOMBIEEATER 08-19-2006 02:20 PM

i wasnt able to find it, $60 is way cheaper than $165 from the dealer, so i would like to check out that link

b300z 08-19-2006 02:24 PM

snwbrderphat540 08-19-2006 03:06 PM

snwbrderphat540 08-19-2006 07:50 PM

i have my moments and my areas i can help at. if its advice on an intake though....don't ask me..... theres a thread explaining why. and Zlover knows why.....he hurt my feelings that night....ok it wasnt that bad....but i still dont trust my judgement to this day....;)

ZOMBIEEATER 08-19-2006 11:44 PM

got the injector out and it looks like its been replaced before so that worries me, what could cause it to keep killing the same injector? snwbrd, did you replace just one of your injectors with the nissanpartspro.com ones?

snwbrderphat540 08-20-2006 12:46 AM

YES?////.....im druknk thoeuhgh.....but the true anse is....yes only one...but i lopst ocmpresison in that cylinder....so the injector didnt do me shit.....but yes..only one...if one gores though...rest will eventually follow....
