low oil??

i just checked my oil. my car has been sitting for about 2 weeks now. is it common for the dipstick to show little oil and the oil fill bay on top of the engine to be empty?? would low oil cause a car to stop running while drivin down the road?

Your dipstick will show low oil when you don't keep the oil properly filled. It is not common to run low on oil. Running out of oil will destroy your motor.

If you drive your car every day, when you get it new (to you), you should check your oil on a weekly basis until you get familiar with how much oil it leaks or burns.

i know that oil is like blood. but is it common for an engine that's been sitting for weeks to show low oil levels? because 'park the car, shut off engine, check oil' has been my usual oil check scenerio.

Unless there's a puddle on the ground where it's been setting for two weeks, then it's been low. If there is a puddle on the ground, you have another problem.

That opening is only for adding oil. Don't be concerned with it in any other way, except putting the cap back on after adding oil. You have the proper amount of oil in your engine when the oil appears at the "full" mark on your dipschtik.

Maybe you should read thru the maintainence section of the online service manual that you can find on Rizz' link page.
