Loud SCREEEEECHING noise!!

OK, I did the research and it I thought the belts were the problem. I jack the car up and check all the belts deflection, everything within spec. The belts are brand spankin new and no wobble in any of the pulleys.

The problem starts when the car is first started. It sounds like an oscillating screech, when you hit the gas, the screech gets louder. I popped the hood and watched the belts. I noticed that when the A/C compressor kicks off, the screeching stops. BUT the A/C compressor can turn back on and NO screeching noise, at all, purrs like a kitten. So I turn the A/C off and restart the car, now this time the noise stays on. In the mornings I have to drive a few hundred feet before it stops, and it ALWAYS comes back when I turn off the car.

Another thing I noticed is that with the A/C off, the noise is still there, and then it seems the clutch fan kicks in and the noise stops. Now remember after the noise stops, it doesn’t come back. So what do you guys think? The noise is SO loud I can’t pinpoint it, it’s like in 5.1 surround. And with a sound like that, its not sexy.

Can be your water pump is saying good bye. happened to me. if that happend by brand new bolts. heat and cold makes those boltts fragile, and you would not like a cople of broken bolts dirring instalation. Own experience.

It has gotten a bit better after adjusting the belts but man its still annoyingly loud. Would the water pump only scream when the car first turns on? I would assume it would cry all the time. I've also tried spraying them down with belt dressing, doesn't seem to help much.

I'm wondering if I should replace the clutch fan. Maybe go electric? But i prefer to keep it stock. Out of curiosity, anyone know how much an OEM clutch fan is? I'de research it but i got 10 minutes to get to class.

i got tired of checking my alternator belt and the power steering until my belt broke . It just skuik really bad when i turn the car on and 45 seconds after that. after that it will drive the hole day with no problrm. After my belt broke i guess it wa the water pump. I have never seen a water pump so bend it an F@#K. and if you do. Go to nissan and get new bolts or water pump water inlet and outlet. Or you will reallyze a drill is the best tool when you have a 90 300zx.

The car still handles great, its just on startup. Actually after adjusting the belts the care makes the noise for a while longer.

One thing I noticed is that if you have the clutch down and move the shifter over to the left, and press it there, it affects the sound a bit. I know its not the tranny but what the crap!?
