Ignition Breakdown Solved

Well, although about everything was checked on my 300zx all attemps had failed to fix my igition breakdown, today after 6 months of searching it's fixed. Problem.... When the Crank angle sensor was replaced somthing wasen't done right. Was before I had car but in the harness side of the CAS there was still pieces of the old sensor's clip, very wierd... after clearing it all out and making a good connection no ignition break down!!! this makes me very happy although there are a few more issues that now have to be addressed, one is im on my 3rd alternator in 1 month and this ones dead agian... somthing is obviously wrong with that, also there is a thusfar un traceable oil leak that appears to be coming from the passenger side exhaust cam valve cover gasket.... the cover isn't warped and has been redone 3 times... Fun fun, anyway figured you guys might want to know since I never figured it out

Is your alternator factory? New or reman? Check and recheck all of your grounds. Check the wires that go into your alternator. Take a multimeter and check the voltage at the battery and at the alterntor. If they're different, then you have a draw somewhere.

What did you ever find? I have the exact same issue and was quoted about $400 to replace it. If you had that done over and over and still no joy, hmmm. Can you comment in this new thread?

just a suggestion...i had the same problem. i replaced the valve cover gaskets and the must is the high temp RTV use a little generously. Apply, torque down valve covers and 24 hrs later after the RTV cures, you should be good.

That is valuable info, Mousier, thanks! Prolly just saved me a fortune!

I'm waiting to see if the dripping gets any worse. Some of the odor I'm getting MAY be my ceramic brakes or my clutch. I've noticed that the dripping is not getting substantially worse - the spots seems to be dried - and it gets worse with spirited driving.

Also, if you arent aware there is a hydrolic/transmission fluid drain spout loacated on the top, front side of the tranny. most if not all 5 spd trannys will have residue stains from the overflow of tranny fluid, however this is a normal. That is another suggestion is you see oily residue on the undercarrige/drivetrain components.

The manual tranny shouldn't leak out of that vent. It's just a breather. If it does leak out of that, then your tranny fluid is probably over-full. If you have oily sludge on the bottom of the tranny, then it's probably the rear main seal leaking.
