I hope it's not been done to death

I will summarise what I think is right to allow you readers to say yeas or no to whether or not options are possible.

looking to fit a manual box to a 300zxTT engine for a kit car project

have read that

you can fit a nat asp 300zx (Z32) box to the TT engine if you use washers to space the starter motor out a bit to align with ring gear teeth and grind a couple of mm out of the gearbox housing to accomodate the TT's larger flywheel.

Or

fit the nat asp Z32 box using the flywheel off the nat asp engine using nat asp starter but clutch would need to be uprated to make way for the TT's power.

Or

fit a manual TT box

I presume all options are possible as I begin my search for a manual box.

please read through and advise for or against please.

thanks

just stick with the TT box, it'll be easier and it was sorta designed for the engine...
However, I have no clue what a nat is from or what it is for that matter.

ahhhh, that was my first guess but I didn't trust myself.
We usually say na or N/A. Makes sense though (nat).
Sadly, I don't know the answer to your questions of fit. Hopefully someone else can come and help out.

Yes u could do it that way or just shave some metal off of the bell housing to clear the flywheel. it won't have an adverse affect on the mounting strength like shims or washers would.

this won't work as a TT clutch wouldn't fit on the NA flywheel and I haven't seen high torque clutches for the NA.

Best bet is to use a TT tranny as this will be the easiest way. Straight bolt on with no fitment issues or lack of clutch options.

I think that's all your questions.

cheers guy's for your efforts and sorry about early confusion.

I think your right with the TT box but they are thin on ground over here and sometimes cheaper to buy a damaged car to break for bits.

the naturally aspirated models here are also not as popular so I'm just trying to widen my search for a good but cheap gearbox.

The title was given to me by the moderators of this site. If you don't think it fits, take it up with the members and moderators.

And it's not that I don't know how to answer your question... I don't know how to read improper acronyms. "nat asp"... wtf is "asp"?

Agreed. I understood the post perfectly well. I don't understand why people get hung up on semantics. Big deal...

FWIW - My suggestion is to buy a TT gearbox. I called Z1 Motorsports and they have used TT MT's on the shelf for $750. They guarantee them for 30 days. I am thinking about buying one and attempting to rebuild it myself with new bearings and syncros. My transmission has some bearing whine in 2nd and 3rd (sounds like straight-cut gears) and I'd rather just have a good transmission, built & ready to go. Thoughts?

Well how much is a brand new transmission? Would it be more to rebuild one than just get a new one?

-'cause i've never seen a site selling syncros, bearings, etc(you probably have).. So i have no idea what the cost of a rebuild is. Courtesy nissan sells new tt trannies for around $2000.

you can get a '98+ spec TT trans for about $1900 from CZP. the '98+ spec had the better synchros.

I did not know this... I think I'd rather have a brand new one than rebuilding one. Parts to do a basic overhaul (gaskets, bearings, syncros) are about $600.
