Headers (in or out)

I bought a JDM engine for my 1990 300zx and I want to know if I should put the headers on before I install the motor or after. I know it would be easier to put the headers before, but would the headers clear when I do install the motor?

Help me out with advice, eh?

Why the hell would you not install them while the motor is out?

One of my co-workers told me he has had problems with some cars when installing headers with the engine out, so I thought I would ask someone who might know. But I wont have the headers until next week so I don't wanna wast time without getting the motor in, when that could be done this week. So, I didn't know if I would have clearance issues with some headers I have never seen before.

Thanks for the advice on the headers!

They are much more difficult to install with the engine in.

Wait it out, put them on with the motor out. It takes minutes.

If you do it with the engine in youre just gonna get pissed off and annoyed that you didnt wait. I just did a JDM swap last week, i put them on with the motor out, its much much much much much easier to do it with the motor out. It doesnt effect the drop in at all.

out out out.

Wow.

I got lucky.

I had my clutch done and I asked the shop to throw in headers for me, the owner said "yeah sure, it should take a half hour or so to put on with the trans out." So he charged me for a half hour of labor.

When I went to pick it up he told me that the service book said it was like 4 hours per side or some ****? He didnt charge me for how long it took because he already quoted me.

They took about 5 minutes per side when I had the motor out.
