Having a minor problem, need some info...

Im having a problem with something in my Z32...During acceleration the car vibrates quite alot in first and second gear only from 2500rpm to around 3300rpm's...in every other gear and rpm its very smooth. What could this be? nothing else seems to be wrong with it just this vibration...
Thanks, Jamie

there's soooo many things that that could be. It could be a vacuum leak, faulty MAF, injector issues, wiring harness issues. Good luck, post some more specifics and we'll try to help as much as we can. I've had a similar problem and checked EVERYTHING. I know now that at least one of my injectors is in a state of complete failure. I've been running on (at the most) 5 cylinders. It'll be a journey.

Hmm...i guess i better check all that stuff then...is it possible that it could be the tranny though?

The manual tranny in these things is pretty much bullet proof. I wouldn't suspect the tranny. As EMO mentioned, it could be a lot of things. If it's something that happens in 1st & 2nd gear and between certain RPM levels, I would suspect something in the driveline or the suspension & tires. It could also be the clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, rear diff bushings, alignment, improper tire inflation/balance, worn tires. You could try changing your tranny fluid, but it most likely isn't the problem. Since you just bought the car, it wouldn't be a bad thing to do that and change the differential fluid while you're at it.

Also check the sensor on your left side located on the water pipe coming from the upper radiator hose, if thats loose or dirty your car will shake and almost stall out if you step on it. It's a good thing to change both of those sensors. Good luck.

Are you talking about the water temp sensor?

I believe the water temp sensor is the one on the right side. Unless I'm grossly mistaken, the left side unit is the water temp gauge sending unit. The sending unit wouldn't cause this. The temp sensor can cause some weird things, but I hadn't heard of it being related to this kind of issue. Anything's possible.

yup i was talking about the water temp censor... i said left meaning you were looking at it standing in front of the engine, not the engines left.... if it's not on all the way or it's loose when you step on it in low rpms it will cause your car to bounce and shake... it's happen to me in my second Z. i figure it would be easiest to check something like that first

It will cause vibration issues. Check all the connectors. That should be your first step, check and clean out all the connections. try all this too:

Hmmm..it kind of seems like it is the driveshaft or center support bearing. Becuase when in neutral there is no vibration. What would these usually cost to replace and what is involved...im very tight on money right now so this is not good news to me.

Check out www.z1motorsports.com. They sell a 1-piece steel driveshaft for about $250. It eliminates the center support bearing. It's lighter and more efficent than the stock 2-piece unit.
