Electrical power loss when driving
Hi all I hope someone can enlighten me as to the issue here.
I have a 1993 Z32 TT. Car started fine and I was driving along and I noticed that I was losing volts. Normally it sits around the 13.5. Currently it's starts at 10 5 and then if I use any electrical power (such as putting the lights on) it drops. As I'm driving along the car will loose power and die. The ABS light comes on first and by the time its dropped to 8 volts its all over and she turns off.
I have a new battery and after a while it will start up again. The battery light does not come on when driving just ABS and then it's all over .
Alternator was my first thought.

Hummmm.
Very likely you have an alternator on its way out. Brushes might be making intermittent contact. Usually what wears out in them. I recommend you start by checking connections to the battery and back of the alternator/generator. If tight, start your car and let it idle. Then disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery. Does the vehicle stall or stay running? If it stalls you need to check for power at the back of the alternator s terminal(small wire(s) and b+ (thick cable bolted to alternator). Should have batter voltage (approx.12.6v) at both. If this all checks out and the vehicle did not stall when negative disconnected you may have a trickier problem on your hands. Keep us posted and good luck
