Dett swap?

I recently bought a 90 Z32 with a DE motor and a 5 speed. The motor is locked up so I would like to swap the DE to a DETT. I hear that the wiring harness in-car has to be changed also? Anyone know about this?

This is my first Z and seems to be a beautiful car. Along way from a S-13.

No no, I'm not talking bolting turbo's on the non-turbo motor. I'm talking about swapping the whole engine with a VG30DETT. I was told by the local import shop, I would have to change the entire wiring harness in the car, not just for the motor. Does the 5 Transmission from the non-turbo motor bolt up to the DETT? Just a few questions I have. Thanks for the info all!

The non-turbo trans will bolt up, but some modification is required to make the starter line up properly with the flywheel.

And it's not a simple engine swap by any means... you'll need intercoolers, all turbo piping, ECU, harness, etc etc etc.

You would be a fool to buy all the parts separately. Get a TT front clip.

Edit: I'll be selling my chassis (sans motor, mods, and ECU) in a month or so... you can buy that, an engine, intercoolers, and ECU and have everything you need (and since you'd be best off upgrading the intercoolers and ECU anyway, you'd be off to a good start power-wise).

I have decided to continue with the DETT swap. I hear from everyone that its a extremely hard swap. I like challenges...

Also, I have Rhino Lined the engine bay after pulling the stock 6cyl. Anyone else heard of doing this?

no, cause it's ugly. sure it might last pretty well, but most people like shiny paint on cars.

rhino lined the engine bay??? Why??? you do realize that a properply painted, and paint that is properly maintained will last probably just as long as rhino lining..... seriously....wow

not so much that the finish would last, but its tougher. so when he drops in the TT it doesnt scratch up the bay. its kinda hard to touch up paint your engine bay with one in there. plus you never know WTF is gonna drop down in there. i hear ya dude, do it up if u feel the need. plus i think rhino linings as colors now, so u might be able to match it up to your paint now if its nothin fancy.
