custom or labree?
custom or labree?
hey guys i have a 93 n/a 2+2 and i want to get some kind of an exhaust system. ive looked at the labree exhaust and also have the idea of getting a custom exhaust. im leaning more toward the custom exhaust, getting the labree mufflers and going to a muffler place. if i go the custom way what am i suppose to tell the guys at the shop on what to do? will i have to get resonators and catbacks or whatever and use 2.5" piping, and when they do the piping what will they replace? any feedback would be appreciated thanks guys.
why would you add a cat if its a cat back section? resonators mabye.....but not neccessary, i would get them though just cuase the noise supression makes a more pleasing note...otherwise it is raspy.
he never said anything about adding cats...catbacks yes, which didnt make complete sense either, but....
im not sure what exhaust shops has as far as x-pipes or H-pipes go, so if you went with an exhaust shop setup with labree mufflers and resonators, i think it will make it sound raspy..not sure tho. its almost just worth it to buy the catback they have, and then you could have an exhaust shop make some test pipes for cheap

well...i still say buy an X or H pipe and then mabye get a section made back from there, with out that good X or H pipe your car sounds poopy, i would know from first hand experience.....mine was an individual exhaust all the way from the motor back, sounded extremely raspy.
I went with 3" custom exhaust system from the down-pipes back. I had the pipes mandrel bent and installed Flow Master American Thunder mufflers. I orignially did not have the cats put in, but considering how loud it was inside the car, I sent back and had some cats installed. I have the resonators, cats, and mufflers, though no X pipe or H-pipe. Not have having the cross-over has helped me in anaylizeing problems. You know when one bank of cylinders are not performing by the sound of the exhaust on that side. There are some advantages of not having the cross-over. BTW - the hp gain with this exhaust system was significant. You could physically tell the difference. No dyno specs.
X and H pipes exist for a reason, Nissan and every performance exhaust company didn't just put it on the Z for the hell of it... it causes a scavanging effect. The exhaust pulse from one side will cause low pressure in the other pipe, which will draw more exhaust gas out of that side. And if you're misfiring, you can figure out which cylinder is causing it by pulling off coil pack connectors, so please don't use that for justification as to why you don't have an X or H pipe. There are no real benefits from not having it, sorry.
i also knew that, which is why i tried to hunt for a used exhaust for 3 months but every deal i worked out dissappeared into thin air, the a$$ holes on some places. then i ended up selling the car, but it was probly for the better, now i take my money save more till next spring and decide on what to buy.
