Blowoff !!!

me and my freinds got into a discussion on which is the loudest blowoff valve for a z32. so which blow off valve is the loudest? give me some output!

OrangeZ32 Jun 27, 2004 10:03 PM

Ive heard a BOV from HKS on a guys 96 TT. He was driving behind me about 3 cars back and I could hear it blasting. Needless to say I was amazed , So I would say that is a really good one. I hear BoostX has a pretty decent one but I haven't heard it in person. But the HKS one is great so I'd say that one.

ok, so what is the point of having a loud blowoff valve?
Is the loudness of it equal to the coolness factor?

I really hope not. :p This is a Z32, not a Civic.

domsgarage Jun 29, 2004 10:00 AM

Duuuuuh Rizz. The louder it is the faster the car goes.

91zxtt Jun 29, 2004 10:34 AM

That's right.....I forgot all about the ricer school of speed....loud = fast.

Riz Z Speed Jun 29, 2004 08:40 PM

well if that's the case why not go the sticker route?
last time I checked stickers were much less expensive than blowoff valves, just as cool and proportionately as valuable for speed.

Doesnt a blow off screw up your A/F ratio, suppose to use a bypass instead is what I thought?

emo236 Jun 30, 2004 07:47 AM

It messes with the MAF being that the amount of air it expects to have coming through isn't. I think the guy was just asking on input from experience, i don't know if he wanted to put one on his car. if you do, consider keeping the stock recirculation valves. they take the excess boost and put it back into the intake side of the turbo....not a bad plan to use that excess boost later to keep the turbine spinning nice and quick. if you're stuck on a BOV, try these following as far as loudness + quality....greddy, HKS, and a blitz is pretty loud.

91zxtt Jun 30, 2004 11:28 AM

Agreed. You don't need a BOV until you're running massive boost.

OrangeZ32 Jul 3, 2004 11:42 PM

jeez jeez, sorry I just heard the HKS was a good one, and it sounded cool when i heard it. Man, became a big ol "bash orange" fest" Lay off guys :p

Riz Z Speed Jul 5, 2004 08:35 PM

we're not bashing you, lol.
we're just letting ya know what we think.

It appears that the loudest may be the Turbo XS RFL's.

ZXDude90 Dec 23, 2004 03:12 PM

There is a recirc kit for the HKS BOVs BTW. I purchased BOVs because I hate that "goosehonk" sound that the stock recircs make when I boost. Anyone else experience that? Some people hear it, others don't.

91zxtt Dec 23, 2004 05:29 PM

I've heard of the goose honk, but never actually heard it.

So, does that HKS kit allow you to mount them in the factory recirc valve location?

Pictures?

Yes it can be mounted it to the recirc location. It came with instructions but are all in Japanese. I was going to try and have them welded to my hardpipes as it's supposed to be more effecient that way. I don't think it would make much of a difference though. Im going to follow a write up on 3zc.

ZXDude90 Dec 23, 2004 07:00 PM

BTW heres what it sounds like. Everyone asks if there's something wrong with my car. http://www.streetneeds.com/uploads/v...Picture070.MOV

91zxtt Dec 24, 2004 11:37 AM

Damn dial-up. Oh well, I can imagine that would be annoying.

Were you able to get everything back together with the HICAS eliminator install? Did you notice a difference?

Have you tried to install the IC's yet? Job doesn't seem that bad. Worst part is modifying the mounting bracket; which is easy. I should have mine in this weekend.

ZXDude90 Dec 24, 2004 12:02 PM

Yeah I installed the eliminator a couple days ago after my replacement ball joints came in (finally). I havn't driven it yet as I will install the sub frame spacers now since the car is still on the stands. I will tackle the ICs when I get that done. What sucks is I have to do the work outside and it's been snowing. I live with my parents and the garage is full of my dad's tools and stuff. Go ahead and make fun of me now :p BTW have you noticed any difference with the spacers?

91zxtt Dec 24, 2004 01:06 PM

OK, I'm done laughing now. The spacers make a noticeable difference. Wheel hop went bye-bye.

Getting off topic but here's a pic of my eliminator install and might as well show some of my car. Not very good but the only ones I have at the moment.

91zxtt Dec 26, 2004 04:53 PM

So, besides breaking that piece, how hard was that job?

ZXDude90 Dec 26, 2004 05:07 PM

Pretty easy. The hardest part was removing the bolts from the failsafe valve and installing the bypass tube as one of the bolts are hard to get. After that I removed the tie rods from the ball joint piece then unbolted and removed the Hicas assembly. Then you just attach the tie rods to the Stillen bar and bolt everything back up to the car. The included instructions were pretty straightforward.
I also installed my sub frame spacers today. It's the easiest mod that I've done. :burnout:
