air intake

I have a 90 na it is my third z car and am looking to install a intake. I know you usually get what you pay for, but I was wandering if anyone new about some of the cheaper intakes on ebay you can get for around 50 dollars?

You can't go wrong with a K&N and adapter............. $39.99, or so, on ebay. I got my K&N for like $5 off ebay before everybody started wanting them.

True to what CC says.
You are not going to see a dramatic difference in hp gain filter to filter.
Don't get me wrong, the gain is important but the key to an intake is allowing the car to breathe better. Get more air in and have the quality to filter particles and keep that intake air clean.

CCs K&N at $40 is likely just as good as my JWT at $90. Do I get 1 additional horsepower? Maybe. Can I tell...not likely.

only difference between K&N and jwt is the velocity stack that jwt includes in their intake. Filter is by K&N.

No dyno results to prove it, but I support the argument that intake and freer flowing mufflers are good for 5 - 10 h.p. on the n/a. It's a fact that the improvement shows up in a 1+ mpg better gas mileage.

As a side note, On my offroad motorcycle, which is only 600cc (or .6 liter), going from the stock set-up to a K&N filter, SuperTrapp muffler, and two sizes larger main jet in the carb, nets a 5 h.p. increase, That's a little less than a 10% improvement which is significant. And those are dyno proven results.

I would buy the JWT for the main reason is that I like the fact that you can reuse them, You can get them with a Nissan part # (pointless though), and I trust the filtration. I do not see a problem with the K&N's because they are quality filters, but if you are talking about the filters included with pipes on ebay I wouldn't trust them. Personally.

Is there that much of a benifit with having the aluminum pipes, or will the stock work just as well with a filter and adapter?

zero performance benefit. They're mainly for looks, although they won't rot over time like the rubber/plastic hoses will.

One of the drawbacks to the metal pipes is that you virtually double the number of connection points, ie: two clamps for every pipe end, which doubles your chances for a leak.
