Aaaaagh!!!! Bad Fuel Pump

ok...so i wash my car, put everything together, and get in it to test drive it. i start it, (little hesitation on start) then i start driving it. i applyed a little gas when the car just cutt off! i try starting it...and nothing i can hear the starter, but there is no fuel coming to the engine. i unscrew the hose after the fuel filter( where it goes to the fuel rail) and i try starting it, when no fuel is being squirted ,so my fuel pump is gone. where is the best price??? please help bc tomorrow i was supposed to get my lisence back and this sucks big time

I've never done it, and don't want to ever have to. Knock on wood. I'm not sure, but as long as you have an access door to the gas tank, it shouldn't be that hard. And you're 100% sure it's the fuel pump and not a blown fuse, or bad gas. It does have gas in it, right. I had a friend that thought his fuel pump quit, so we installed a new one. Turned out he was out of gas.

i am sure... i have a full tank of gas and it is premium gas, i checked the fuses, they are all working. it's not sending any fuel at all... i unhooked the hose that goes from fuel filter to the fuel rail and it wasn't sending any fuel. you said u installed it? how hard is it? it's in the gas tank, and i have no idea how to get to it

No, I said I hope I never have to. So when you leave the ignition on, no fuel comes out of the fuel line. I'd keep trying to start it. Fuel pumps are not a common problem in these cars. Since you've been working on the car, it's possible that you lost fuel pressure and the fuel pump is trying to prime itself. I'd keep trying.

So how long was the car out of service? I'd buy a fuel pump that you'd be able to return if necessary. When you take the old one out, I'd try tamping on it lightly to see if it isn't just something that got lodged in the motor. Just because the car was sitting shouldn't cause the fuel pump to quit.

We all know how frustrating it is to work on your car for awhile, then when you try to drive it, a part that wasn't tied into what you were working on, fails. It's Murphy's Law in a sick and twisted way.

Oh no, not the dealership. Before you know it, they're going to try and charge you $800 for new muffler bearings, a homogenizer and halogen fluid! Better take the vaseline with you when you go to pick it up.

hahahaha...nah i told them what the problem was and thats all i want fixed, and thats about the only thing wrong with my Z. it has about 70k on it and it runs strong as hell. those guys tried charging me $600 to fix my window a while back, bc the clips broke off, and the regulator bent, i fixed it for $100. just purchased a new regulator, went to a junk yard and they gave me some clips from other cars...glued those on to the window, and it works great

One thing for sure, they're gonna make you feel uneasy about driving away. I can see it now...." Sir, I wouldn't recommend driving this car, your rod shafts are in a state of complete failure and the vestibular (insert a bunch of words that don't mean anyhting, but confuse most people here) and you might end up in a blown up car on your way home."

Then the dealer would tell you, "See, we told you sir. This car needs to be totally rebuilt. Quite frankly we're surprised it didn't do this before. 70,000 is a lot of miles on this car."

nah, i have a parts guy looking out for me. they said that the fuel pump had a short. the connector that goes to the fuel pump was corroted, so they "recommended" i change the whole thing, but Sean ( guy at the parts) told them just to put a connector on, so it's gonna be like $50 with labor and everything. i guess i was lucky bc i knew my Z was in a good shape. so i got off easy... i am sure tomorrow when i go to pick up my car they will throw a few things on me that i should change. they know i won't do it, so they don't try to push it too much. they are aware of my short temper. i've clmed down quite a lot but they don't know that , bc i used to write letters to the corporate office about their service people thats just because they were dicks... i'd ask them a question about a Z and they would be like "did you purchase your car with us?" and i'd be like ....."Nooo..." and then they would say " so why should we help you for free?" the guy actually said that to me.. i blew up, and wrote a letter, and i think he either got transfered or canned, but he wasn't there anymore

Oh man, now I mad that I didn't elaborate on my previous statement about gently tapping the fuel pump to ensure that it's something lodged inside. If you had done that, you would've seen the connection was corroded. Just for future reference, anytime you're haveing a problem with an electrical component, always check the connections.

Um, now that I'm looking at this closer, why are we posting this on this thread instead of under your Fuel pump thread?

threads merged...kinda cool. And I'm glad it was just a connector and not a fuel pump.

Wow, everyone take note....I had a good idea! Hopefully it's not my last. They come so infrequently these days. No offense to anyone, but I'd hate to spoil my last good idea here.
