what exactly is "FAIRLADYZ"

I'm over here in Japan and I had a discussion with this guy that owns a Skyline about what makes a FAIRLADYZ. I told him a FairladyZ is a 300zx or Z in Japan..and the number designated title (280, 300, 350z) is american or with the steering wheel on the left side.

Is this accurate? He believes a fairladyz is the turbo designation...I know thats wrong.....what do you guys think?

they were called fairlady before they ever turbocharged them. the 280zxt was the first turbo z, and they have been called fairlady since the first 240z, so he's a moron.

and what is your name supposed to explain why it's called a fairlady????

fair means pretty in british, so when they imported 240's into us they all had a fairlady emblem. when they got to US, and nissan people saw it, they didn't think it would sell with that name, so they changed the badges to 240sx. so fairlady means pretty girl i guess...this was told to me by one of my teachers in high school. I never bothered to check since i am a lazy bum

Basically Mr. K came to america when he was a young designer for Datsun. Saw "My Fairlady" in play form. Was inspired by it somehow and slapped the name on the OG 240Z.

I concur with Milo. The Fairlady is the name more commonly used to name the Z in all other countries except the USA. The cars are the same inmost respects..other than a few minor badging differences. The cars are all RHD. But thats it..OH. The FAIRLADY Zs have little sidmarker lights are a different rear fog lamp in europe and japan on the Z32s.

After reading this thread and looking at 91zxtt's avatar. the avatar picture kinda looks like a speed racer kinda cartoon characters face..... maybe a Fairlady? I know it's a stretch.

The more important question is. "How much are 99 headlights in japan, and can you send us some?"
