vibration

ok i just cant win

i just had to pay 190 for a new ptu harness and 100 for a maf since both took a dump

car ran great for a day now i am getting some serious vibrations out of my drive shaft. during acceleration only till 25mph then it goes away.

i have been searching and reading.

it is either my u joints or carrier bearing
i believe you can replace both the carrier bearing and u joints correct?

i really do not have the money for a one piece right now

i bet it's the carrier. it's easy to tell. just grab the ds anywhere and shake it. if it moves any, the carrier is bad. when mine finally went, i could hear it rattle and the car shook terribly. u-joints are more of a vibration. i'm not sure if you can change u-joints on that shaft though. but if i were you, i'd want to look for a used 1 piece. i looked when i was in the market, but i couldn't find one.

anyway, zlover disagrees with me, but i believe that if the carrier bearing goes, the likelyhood that it was caused by a bad u-joint is very likely. not to say that it guarantees that you have a bad u-joint, but it's likely the cause. it was for me anyway. i replaced the carrier then found that i still have a little intermittent shake that i believe is from a u-joint. so for that reason, i suggest a one-piece. this is also the theory that my local z mech supports. he believes it a little more strongly than i do.

well if you're short on money, i'd go with the cheaper one, cause the more expensive one looks like it's only barely better.

300zxclub has group buy on AMZ aluminun drive shafts until the end of the month.

also, i'm pretty sure Z1 sells PTU harnesses for cheaper than 190.

ok crawled under the car today and pushed up on the drive shaft and it is definatly the center support shaft bearing. i also noticed a little grease with dirt on it on my diffy side u-joint.
i think if i spend the money to fix the bearing an u joint will go after and i will need a new shaft any ways so it looks like i will probally just end up getting a one piece and eliminating the bearing all together and free up a few horseys.

ohh btw is the one piece really that much of a difference in feel preformance etc.?
if it that noticeable?

i've heard many times that it wasn't noticeable. bardabe said his N/A with a light flywheel and one-piece was barely any different.

Yeah do what you gotta do.

I never looked into the COZ driveshafts because I had heard so many good things about z1, and the guys were awesome to deal with.

The shipping is booty, and i think there actually like 50 bucks cheaper when I got mine.

Good luck with it, its a pretty easy swap, should take less then an hour if you know what youre doing.

Center Support Bearings suck....I imagine there's a little less drivetrain loss with a 1 piece driveshaft than with a 2 piece. That's why I'm going to upgrade.

Dropped a one piece in a few months back cause my center dealy went to **** on me. Had a little vibration at 75+ witht eh new one for a month or so but it smoothed itself out gradually. It's pretty close to perfect now, only starts to vibrate again up around 105.
