for those who've had a rebuild

hey, this is a fairly simple question. i was just curious as to all of you whove had a rebuild on the engine, what is the price to just drive in drop off the car and get an engine rebuild. if it matters what kind of car lets go with a TT cuase i found one for a good price soe kids sellin it and i would definatly get it rebuilt fairly soon high miles. so i wanted to now the cost before i put thought into purchasing it. thanks.

Beware of the TT rebuild. Take it to a reputable shop that knows the Z32. Otherwise take your chances. I had a buddy that went through 2 shops that couldn't find their way around his TT until finally he went to a specialist that got his engine done right and actually put the car back together right. The first two places just couldn't seem to do it.

Yes, be very weary of the TT rebuild is correct. The Z shop I go to has a TT being fixed from a crap rebuild at least once a month. A good rebuild by a good Z shop can get into the $6-$8k territory. It ain't cheap. If you are paying less than that, I would be a little scared of the outcome.

yeah... you're looking upwards of $4k for a decent rebuilt from a reputable shop (if I recall correctly, that's the base of what we charged people when I worked at Ultimate Z).

Honestly, I'd HIGHLY recommend against just dropping a car off to have it done... book time on removing and reinstalling the engine is 20 hours, so at todays labor rates, that's $1600-$1800 just to take the engine out of the car and put it back. I'd recommend getting the tools, service manual, and a few friends and pulling the engine yourself, stripping it down, taking it to a machine shop to have them rebuild the engine, and then putting it back yourself. Not only does it save a lot of money, but it's a great learning experience, and once you figure out where everything is on the engine you'll never have to pay anyone to fix anything in the engine bay ever again.

Through that method, it cost me about $2k (IIRC) in total to rebuild my engine with forged internals.

Dude your spelling is killing me. Zlover knows what he is talking about, im just trying to grow some ***** and one day to try and pull my engine. Anyways if i had to do a rebuild think i would buy a OEM short block and get the heads machined. Or buy a new OEM long block for 6k yea right. Here are some shops that do good work IMO some others my disagree just to give you an idea.

Wow ha ha this is like replacement of me? ha ha I remeber this on my freshmen year. Uhhh Kid all i gotta say is that Good luck with your TT build. I was going the smae path with my N/A but things got kinda hard and I got too impatient.

Finding good TT motors aint easy
Rebuilding TT motors is no fun
Building TT motors is even harder
you gotta buy tow of everithing for the Z32
Things aren't cheap
you are still in Highschool

Basically get an N/A and be happy. that;s what I did then made the mistake on attempting to make a TT conversion with a very limited budget and ended up PArting out he Z32 and PIcking up an S13. so unless your budget is above 6K or endless. then you are gonna have to pull something out of your ***.

ive actually been thinking of taking the same path as you picking up a s13 with a blown a/c or engine for like 500 and then getting an SR swap done theres a shop 3 miles away that specializes in that for a good price , and witht the rest of my money getting a motorcycle. but its so hard to leave the Z.

yeah it is. the only reason I left my Z was because the guy with my front clip flaked on meh. and I got a good deal on my S13. I picked it up for 2700 with an extra SR and JDM Silvia Front end. after I osld the other blown SR for 550$ the total cost came to like 2150. wich is not bad considering I did all the work on it. bought a new piston, set of piston rings , fuel pump, Tomei Headgasket, NGK Plugs, Apex'i Intake, new vacum, coolant, and Fuel lines, SARD adjustable FPR. and by dar I'm at the $3,786 spent on the S13, that includes the Nissan OEM Graphite Grey paint job, and Kinetic Motorsports FMIC.

From parting out the Z32 I;ve gotten $1,572 and hopefulyl I sell the manual swap for $550 plus shipping. then I can come up on Circut Sports Gauges, carbon Ti Muffler, and Custom 3" piping.
