Stereo Specs (confirmation)

I have a 96' TT with the Bose system, needless to say my rear speakers are shot. I've read online that I can replace the front speakers with 6.5" speakers and for the rears I need to buy from nissan or make a bracket to fit 4"x6" speakers in the rear. Is this info true.

I've read a few things while searching that were conflicting so I figured I'd double check with you guys. I'll go search somemore in the meantime.

I stumbled upon these after reading a post on thumper300zx.com.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-Rea...QQcmdZViewItem

Any experience with these?

Nissan $110

or the one's I posted off of ebay that allow for a bigger speaker in the front and a more widely used speaker in the rear for around $50 shipped.

Just remember

Bose doesn't play by normal car stereo rules, you know 8 ohm 1 amp kinda stuff, they use seperate amps in sealed enclosures. Those brackets look like they will work, also sold by Coz but i think his are a bit more expensive.

Yeah all I've read about it how Bose is crap. I just checked Coz's stuff its the OEM breckets. I like the idea of the OEM brackets but I'd ratrher have 6.5's all around. I think the ones off ebay will work fine. I hope the speakers I get for the front wont be too deep. Also I dred pulling apart the car to replace everything and re-wire it all.....

Bose: Better Sound through Marketing! (AV industry joke ).

you'll have to get rid of the Bose headunit, as well as the individual amps. and you might as well replace the wiring too.

FYI: a quick search of the Z32 forum for "speakers" yields 2 pages of threads that should help.

no, you can use existing wires

you just have to take the amps off the end and hook the wires up to the speakers. There are write ups on it here and on TT.net read them first before purchasing.

did i say "you can't use the existing wires"? no, i just recommended replacing them. it's one of those "might as well" things, but not mandatory.

i have the OEM front bracket on my car. they fit fine with 6-1/2" infinity Kappa component speakers and i used to have rear oem 4"x6", they also worked well but i changed it to custom 6-1/2" bracket like the one at Ebay, mine is white color and made with wood instead. i didn't use the bose enclosures, i attached it directly to the car body using two screws.

No biggie

Entropy, I was replying to that not your statement. As long as he is just going with 4x6 or 6s and powering them off the head unit then the stock wiring is fine. If muffin decides to put in amps then he will have to run a lot more wire.

I'm putting a new Headunit. New fronts and rears. New wires (newer and thicker cant go wrong) also I'm running all of them off an amp in the rear (once I actually purchase everything) If I feel I can make a bracket to mount the ebay peice to the body and not use the rear enclosures then I will otherwise I'm not too worried about the enclosures extra weight (tho every pound helps our beasts)

I have two very indepth articles saved in my favorites about the removal and install process (All I did yesterday was research and watch DVD's)

Eventually (Probaly next month) I'll order another amp and a sub.

Anyone run sub boxes behind their seats? My buddy does in his MR2 but I think he has a lil more space then me. Seems like we have the room though...

for the subs, not sure about behind the seats but i used to have two 10" alpine subs in the trunk using chris's version one sealed boxes that i bought from tt.net under classified section. powered with Kenwood mono amp, sound really tight and nice clean look. sub boxes were look like the part of the factory. as my age get order, i realized and prefered the power than look and sound. so, i pulled these piece of craps from my car and sold them already but it's just me.

There just isn't a lot of room behind the seats

Passenger side has the ABS actuators and i'm not sure what's behind the diver's side is it the headlight alignment tools? Been a while since i looked. best bet is to go with a single Speaker in an enclosure in the very back. They make a few stealth enclosures for that kind of application.

Directly behind the seat behind that padding (when you pull off the lil rectangle peices that are velcrowed on) I changed my mind but I would like to mount the amps behind each seat. If I went with 1/2" or 1" screws should I be safe or will I hit something? Mabye I can attach huge peices of velcrow to the back of the amp and just stick it to the space behind the seats (If the screws will hurt somethin)

Attaching velcro to the amp is half assed. Do the job right or don't do it at all. Find 1 amp that will work for your application and mount is between the strut towers.

i mounted the 4 channel amp behind the passanger seat. i think i used 1/2" screws that came with the amp. it doesn't hit anything. but the best location is under the passanger seat if the amp is not too thick and large. i saw someone done it with the Rockford Fosgate amp.

It was just an Idea for extra support. Also I'll be building a custom enclosure for my sub that will hug the inside of the shelf (between the shock towers).

Also I NEED two amps the speakers I'm running in the car are much stronger then regular speakers. Their Peak Power is 600W!!! (Thats how much the max on my old sub was!) But their RMS is 120 (still much higher then regular 6.5" speakers). So I'll need one to power the speakers and one to run my new 12"

I'll try under the seat I looked their first but didnt have my amp yet to actually lay it down their. (probably have room since theirs no power seat on the pass. side for my year)

Thanks I was worried about the screws hitting something behind the seats now I have no worries!!

Tim
