Shift lock problem
Shift lock problem
I have a ‘91 N/A 300zx with an automatic transmission. She’s a survivor. Recently I’ve had a problem with the shift lock. I have to push the lock down to move the shifter when I put the car in gear, but only on an intermittent basis. Very strange. I checked the fuse, it was fine, but I replaced it anyway. I replaced the ignition, but that was several years ago. Thoughts?

Update: I’m now hearing a clicking sound (from the shifter) when I attempt (unsuccessfully) to put my car into gear (without pushing down on the shift lock). I read something about the brake relay (?) being in play perhaps, and my bright light indicator does come on when I press on the brakes (electrical goblins). Could this all be connected? I need to sell the car, but don’t want to pass this issue along.
Someone? Anyone?
