Hey everyone,

I'm a new Z owner, on a whim I picked up a non running 1995 Auto 300Z 2+2 for a grand. The Water pump was rusted out and I'm starting to see some backyard mechanic "work" on this car. The timing gear cover has been hacked off in places, hoses have been either removed or dry rotted, the engine it's self looks like a JDM replacement(Guy at Nissan told me that). I don't even know were to start making repairs on this car, but I wanted to say hello to everyone and get some pictures up.

I'm going to take it to a import repair shop today and get an idea of how bad/good off this thing is. I was told it was parked due to a sudden drop of oil pressure after a loud squeaking noise started up. Been parked for about 4 months before I bought it.

What should I look for? Help me get this thing back on the road!

I'm interested in restoring it for looks not speed, I have a bike for that.

Issues I've found.

1) Left console panel is broken and just hanging there.
2) Clicking noise coming from fan on the t-bar (Fixed by popping it off and adjusting the screw)
3) Stereo System is shot, will need a new head unit wire-kit and Panel accessories cover.

Things I could use help with..
4) Left door isn't closing all the way, I push on it and the light goes out let go and light comes on.
5) Pre-starting. Before starting this thing or trying to it's been sitting for a while( 4 months) and "quote loss oil pressure during a very loud and sudden squeaking"

What should I check and what should I do to try and prevent further damage?

Welcome to Z Driver..

Read and Search .. you will find more than you ever wanted to know..

I have a Somewhat un-Altered Black 92.. 2 seater that was purchased for 2K with a Blown Clutch and a Bad Tranny.. runs on 5 Cyl.. that is next on the list to go on the Hoist.. But I need to get the 95 2+2 Back together first..

These Cars look real nice fixed up just 'Slightly Over Stock'.. Very Comfortable also..

I like N/A cars.. less to break..

Good Luck on your Project.. You will find it a REAL PITA to get the Intake off, to do any injector work.. Took me three hours to get mine free.. After that, it only gets a LITTLE faster.. If you do the 'Throttle Body Coolant Line Delete', then it makes the Install faster also..

Some people do not run the Cam Belt Cover.. I prefer it.. does not look so 'Rice'..

I'd pop out the Plugs, and do a Cold Compression Check on yours.. I'd expect to see something in the low 100's .. don't worry.. we are just looking to see that it Spins and has Compression.. MIGHT be some rust on Valve Surfaces keeping the Compression Low till se Runs for a Bit..

If it Can do a Compression Test, and not knock or Bang.. then might try and Start it.. With the Drive Belts Off!!

The Squeek.. ???.. Pop all the Belts Off (EXCEPT the Timing Belt) and see if it still makes that noise..

The Low Oil Pressure COULD be it's low on Oil.. as it is SOMEWHAT hard to read the Oil Level.. I know the 91 ( It's Gone Now ) has run out of oil before.. it still shows on the Dipstick, but the oil really is not there.. it's just oil from the Tube getting wiped on the Dipstick.. Check it a Bunch of Times.. Usually when it's that low, the Pressure would Rise, then Fall, as the Oil was Pumped to the Heads..


As for the Squeek.. if you still have one, with all the belts Off, ( except the Cam Belt ).. then it is the Cam Belt Idler SOMEWHERE.. TURN IT OFF!!!..

If you have a Bad Cam Belt Idler, and the Belt Jumps more than a Few teeth, then the Valves are TOAST.. be Warned.. I've had my 95 loose an Idler, and jump one tooth on the Right Bank.. did not kill anything, but was worried about it.. Got lucky on that one.. Ran like Krap, and Sounded like a Subie.. And a Bad Squeek that was hard to locate..

I had that problem once too the CAM was off and it ran like **** and it did run sounding like an impreza lol

Ahahaa nothing it just not natural and it was hella funny how it sounded just like my friends WRX lol **** was hilarious. ALL the noise without the POWER LMAO!
