welcome to zdriver. congrats on the new Z. the typical first mod is the intake, and most would reccommend the JWT POP charger. there is a stage chart sticky in this forum, first post in performance/technical. you should check that out.

congrats man! I know how stoked i was last month when i got my Z! When it comes to site's like this though, trust me when i say, face value of a word is as good as the value of virtue. ON CAR SITES anyway. Alot of these guys know a good deal about the Z cars....most, however, just have half-***'d conclusions. Pick and choose who you talk to and be very skeptical of what "real" advice you take. watch the site for awhile, and figure out who is real and who is full of ****....then private messenge the real people (if you can).
Most sites have 2 *********, 8 decent people, 3 really cool on-it guys, and 7 followers.
Good luck. (yes i found all this out in a month) Screw-um, if you have guestion throw them out here anyways!!!

thanks man, no site or anywhere with groups of people is going to be 100 percent positive and or informative, i just try to gather as much info as possible and form my own conclusions, it might not be the right choice always but i live and learn. i thank you for your advice and would love to see some pics of your car.

Pssshhhh, anybody that says N/As are slow hasn't had the pleasure of watching our tail lights fade into the distace. Welcome to the world of the Z owner, you will forver be broke and incredibly picky about how a vehicle handles

I truly enjoyed my 1990 N/A 300zx

I left my completely stock except for an intake and crossdrilled rotors, aftermarket springs upgraded clutch and a wish troll for the dash. But i replaced all of that cause of failures or cuase the cost of replace oem was about the same as aftermarket ( the car had 200k + miles on it when i traded it in ) the nissan 3.0L is an awesome engine, just remember to replace the timing belt at 60k 120k and multiples of 60k after that, do your waterpump while you are at it. they only cost 20$ or so. oh and the wish troll might come in handy when your gas gauge reads E and you are 30miles from home and you remember you left your wallet in your other car!!

If you get a cheap one from autozone...If your doing a 60k or 120k service just order the complete kit from someone.

When it comes to these cars. Use only nissan parts, or good aftermarket parts.. (for the most part)

A nissan waterpump by the way is around 100 dollars (including gasket).

The only thing I don't order from nissan, or an autorized aftermarket parts dealer (like COZ) and i mean THE ONLY THING are my spark plugs, because I use iridiums....

ive never had a "cheap"...

Even cheap 10 times recycled from core waterpumps last 60k miles. the 3 things you look at when you replace a waterpump are the 1.gasket surface being machined smooth and flat 2. the Bearing(s) being of good quality 3. the shaft being straight. The only reason the Nissan parts cost so much is cause they don't use recycled cores. Now,i agree there are some parts you DON'T want to go cheap on but the water pump isn't one.
parts i would go cheap on include replacement windshields, waterpumps, Rims ( to a point, unless you are racing who cares if the rim you got weighs 1 pound more than your friends). headlights, i don't know about you guys but making your low beams so bright everyone flashes you thinking you have your highs on isn't only unsafe, its usually a big waste of money. replacement bulbs cost 8$ but go ahead and spend the 20$ if you want.
Parts i would not go cheap on include but aren't limited to a good oil filter, replacement suspension parts, the thermostat (ive seen cheap ones snap prematurely) a clutch, and oil.

Or in Nappy's case make sure it's for a Z, not a maxima. Hugh Brandon.
