My dad has a 93 nissian 300zx TT that he is unwilling to let me have as my first car. His reasons are because of the snowfall in massachusetts (i understand that it wouldnt be able to go in the snow) makes the car impractical for too and from highschool. Also im in no way spoiled i have to pay for the insurance and the work that needs to be done. It needs four new tires brakes rotors in addtion the trunk window leaks and the clutch is mushy so a new clutch as well... Basically anyone in the New England area own one and use it everyday? i could use some advice to help convince my dad to let me start the little bit of restoration it needs. This IS my dream car

Maybe a better tactic, would be convince your dad the Z is your dream car and your willing to put the time and effort into fixing it up and continuing the Z tradition in your household. Make restoring it a father and son project. Find yourself a second car for school, a beater you can drive in the snow and park in your High school parking lot and not be worried someone might ding it or key it or who knows what. That way you will have a nice ride once you graduate and go to college, and a sweet ride for dating. That will show maturity, responsibility and foresight, and probably impress your dad. Just a thought. High school can be tough on cars and no one wants to trash they're "dream car". You might notice that a lot of guys that post on this forum have been long time Z fanatics and once in your blood its hard to give up. Good luck in what ever you do !
Against my wishes, my sons mother purchased a 91 NA 300 ZX for him.. My statement was.. " thats too much car for a person of his age.. " think he was 20..
The Car was street Raced ( he usually won! ), and driven in a 'Manor Consistent with a younger Male Driver'.. It finally went off a cliff with Him in it. He lived.. the Car did not..
Now you want your dad to give you a TT!!.. If you really love that car.. let dad have it for a while longer.. Wreck a few Hondas on your way to School.. when your 25, the car will be in better shape, and you will enjoy it for a longer time..

I agree with Cap im only 23 but have had many cars and the tt has a 90% chance of being wrecked if its ur first car.... based on how I and most of my friends into cars drive. ... just my opinion though.
The Good Twin
Ah, the good old "I deserve everything right now!" days of high school...
I definitely would have killed myself and all my friends if I had a TT in highschool. My RWD Toyota Corolla was bad enough.

Reminds me of High school and my 1st car, my dad didn't want me to get it, and it was really to much for me, but my GF's dad fronted me the down, this was 1975... it was a 1969 mustang Mach1 428 Cobra Jet, shaker scoop, big Mickey Thompson's on Cragar SS's...only 12000 miles. The guy I bought it from wanted to Show it, so it was in perfect shape. It would do 140 all day, a little scary at 150, no front spoiler, so the front end started to float at 150, on breaks between classes I would load it up with friends and fly down the freeway, at about 6 miles to the gallon I couldn't afford the gas, so I sold it. The guy wrapped it around a tree and totalled it, better him than me, but I had to shed a tear when I spotted it at a gas station all munched.Originally Posted by cbaumy34

Horsepower Mathematician
It's a shame when nice cars go to waste like that. If/when you get your TT, just remember it'll blow your socks off if you're not careful. Even if you "haven't matured", anyone can be a mature driver but still have fun now and then
